POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Art.
Lucy was telling me
about this artist
who spread everything
across her bed -
burnt it for art's sake
&
I thought, hard
of your body
in the gallery
on fire.

window spotting
I watch her from the window
while she bites air,
mouth breaking gravity,
jaw cuts it into rain -
Then,
she swallows.
I raise china to my throat -
pay for the coffee;
shut the door on my way out;
think of something to say about the weather, goddammit.

Me and Rose, the Sixteenth of July, 2022.
The news today reports on the anomalies of couples
capturing the exact sensation of daybreak
using only their mouths;
the weather report; that the nearest alternative
to rain down window
is un-ironed T-shirt, creased to hell -
Still. I remain bed-bound,
dreaming of open-roofed bars for dutch-courage;
since It’s too early for cold beer.
Maybe i’ll find Rose on the way there -
makeup blushing,
deep within morning glow
and Invite her for a walk wherever flowers explode;

Tabitha
Tabitha,
I have searched, endlessly -
for as many synonyms for Taxidermy
as there are people
other than you
who make me wish I stuffed myself,
and degutted, emptied out
everything entirely for the cover-girl
of benzodiazepines pill bottles.
This is how we survive,
slowing numbing to the trail
of what's left. The alcohol goes down quicker
too -
But, still, couldn't help
passing through our park during an evening walk,
to watch the lake where we swam inside daylight
praying to God the...

the big shave
I learnt it through trial and error -
Almost bandaged white,
and carved out;
My face held only broad concepts,
a mouth; chin;
ears.
I heard Scorsese directed something similar
as an allegory for Vietnam;
His set design, nuanced,
framing, perfect and
editing, sublime -
the short ends,
with a shot contained in gore.
So beautiful is the thing that starts with subtlety
but finishes in violence.
I continued to douse the cheek.

small beginnings
It was Charles Mackay who wrote of perspective
as a transitory release, so I have tried experimenting
with new, avantgarde ways
to breathe;
Because there is a certain pain that drives young men to make out with pillows,
and a statement about neo-expressionist architecture that we do not yet understand.
I want the risk that comes with asking for the time
In someplace where the sky at 8’oclock looks like the sky at 10,
and to look toward the world through a window that reveals
itself only upon the touch of rain.

Passing Through.
Passing through the graveyard, each section dedicated
to burying parts of the skeleton.
We stretch into the neck,
and through the hand, finger-grasses phalanx around feet.
As our bodies close in on the tomb,
I read you something found on its headstone:
hold me; graze skin,
until you reach bone.

It is March and I have finally accepted that Christmas is over.
Stars splinter night, and if you’d just step outside -
sky looks like paragraphs of dishevelled text
corrupting against white page.
Across empty streets, lampposts define evening
and in bedrooms, people journal the day.
One writes about love as an obsession and another, that;

This is the first step toward recovery in majority middle class towns.
The others are an assortment of instructions found
between the hedges of inspirational quotation marks, ...
