Kansan Snow
Yesterday the snow appeared
So mild as the meadow lark
With none to lash and none so feared
His every hail lifts their embark
Who can know the wonder, then
As why the seasons sing so quick
The snow that floats on down to men
Gives space to light the candle's wick
Here's a blessing, heretofore
Who's never felt so warm before
Beside my fellow Kansan friends
Who warm their hands to make amends
So mild as the meadow lark
With none to lash and none so feared
His every hail lifts their embark
Who can know the wonder, then
As why the seasons sing so quick
The snow that floats on down to men
Gives space to light the candle's wick
Here's a blessing, heretofore
Who's never felt so warm before
Beside my fellow Kansan friends
Who warm their hands to make amends

The Fruit of Joy
Just as all have found their portion
Oh, what sweet and subtle taste
You have found the fruits of spirit
Justice doesn't hide her face
Only ask and it is given
Yearly, daily, moments soon
Jaded times or filled with pleasure
On the hour or at noon
Yes, at midnight in your life
Jackals may attack; though fail
Omnipotent help is there
Yearning as the passing gale!
"Joyful, joyful we adore thee"
Oh! what melody we love
You have found its secret splendor
Just as hail is from above
One gives knowledge of the fruit ...

A Bondservant
There was a time when it was proper
And proper too a time to end
Long ago in sin and death
This broken soul had found his friend
Apart from all he called his own
He reaped the fruits he hadn't sown
Ease and luxury banded chains
And death's malevolence brought pains
Forged within the fires of depravity
Of the greatest gravity
There within the felon's box
He saw the judge in chains and locks
And higher still the whole commotion
Was purely for his deep devotion
His drugs and avarice and greed
Paid dividends he...

Acrostic 1
About this time some years ago
Before the fields were red
Children played and grew in life
Daring not the future's stead
Every mountain valley played
Fields of green were filled with shade
Gold was but a thought and glimmer
Heaps of dust for pans to simmer
Interims besought the nations
Just as time brought tribulations
Kindness of the pure surmise
Love is true as lightened eyes
Mighty waves rolled by the Spirit
Neither fool nor wise did fear it
On that day the children knew
Precious was that gift for you...
Before the fields were red

Daring not the future's stead
Every mountain valley played
Fields of green were filled with shade

Battle Hymn of the Republic (var. 1)
With the great and lovely lillies
Christ was born across the sea
With a passion that lamented
All the sins of you and me
As he died to make us holy
Let us die to make men free!
His Truth is marching on
Christ was born across the sea
With a passion that lamented
All the sins of you and me
As he died to make us holy
Let us die to make men free!
His Truth is marching on

New Mercies
Who can make a brand new day?
Or let the sun shine down on man?
Who can light a single ray?
Or give us each a perfect plan?
God alone will weigh the heart
For truly it is God to start
I thank my God for life and thee
And freedom underneath the tree
For chirping birds and summer rains
For autumn leaves and winter pains
For trials lead to victory
And tribulation sets us free
I count it joy, and knowing fully
None, to me, can be a bully
For He who makes the dawn his friend
And wraps the dusk until the end
Keeps...

To Arlington
Have you been to Arlington?
A dreadful sight to see
To gaze ahead at those long dead
Springs readily to me
Go see them there at Arlington!
The cross of memory
The tombs of lead of those long dead
Who fought for you and me
Don't weep for those at Arlington!
For tears have flowed far more than blood
By those who haven't tasted death
But tasted of its torrent flood
Recall the souls of Arlington!
The men who fought for freedom's cause
And when your mind drifts down to war
Give space to life
And pause.
A dreadful sight to see
To gaze ahead at those long dead
Springs readily to me
Go see them there at Arlington!
The cross of memory
The tombs of lead of those long dead
Who fought for you and me
Don't weep for those at Arlington!
