POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
He Owns the Sun
Her sweetness is the purest kind
Organic, filled with tranquil thought
With beauty far within her mind
Could not be sold, nor love be bought
In calm and confident array
She wins the winds from winter's way
She springs the summer sun to stay
And warms the heart; a better day
She brings to mind a subtle ingenuity;
A lovely gratuity
Who knows her? Who finds her?
A king holds his maid and begs;
Aye, begs! He is poor
As love beats upon his door
In her arms, he who owns all
Owns none

Let's Us Go Up Home
Filled, o lovely Zion
My home and friend in thee
By day, o lovely Zion
You sing so sweet to me
O, daughter and my sister
With trumpet sounds and beauty faire
Thy echo'd call and answered prayer
Belayed thy beauty, bare
Who hurt you, daughter Zion?
Who called you from your lair?
Did eye not see, nor ear give hear
Nor any of them care?
My virgin is to carry;
My Zion; by the sea
Behold what beauty is to harken
What my beauty means to me
I made you, daughter Zion
I have seen the wrath in thee ...
My home and friend in thee
By day, o lovely Zion
You sing so sweet to me
O, daughter and my sister
With trumpet sounds and beauty faire

Who I Am
Who am I to tell you who I am?
I am a daughter with a sacred ring
I am a son of the living king
I am the life animating bones
I am the skin in exotic tones
I am the breath of a better way
I am the sun of a brighter ray
I am a child, a prince, an heir
I have a crown, and beauty faire
I am the rhyme, without a scheme
I am the stitching without the seam
I am the wind; although you hear it
Truly fills my spirit
I am the voice in the wilderness call
I am the voice of the one in the hall
I am...

They Have Yet to Arrive (midnight & noon)
There soon will come another time
O, nation that has strived
That war will rear its checkered face
From they who've not arrived
From places where they plot and scheme
Their deserts all and grand bazaar
Not with books or word give heed
But like a meteor and star
Yes, the war within your heart
Soon consumes the hearts of men
"There shall be no in-between"
Nor from them life comes again
I have seen this bitter struggle
First from Rome and then from they
"Kill and give" or "maim and slay"
All reducing, all to...

Riddle of the King's Seed
Once there lived an ancient king
Without and heir or marriage ring
He was old, and groaned about his throne
And the future of his home
And so one day the king decreed:
"The kingdom's children get one seed.
To the child who's plant is best and faire
I shall declare them my heir!"
Three months later they arrived
From city straights and countryside
And plants of every kind were here
And yet the king was without cheer
Yet last of all a young girl brought
A little empty flower pot
Without a plant...and filled...

He was old, and groaned about his throne
And the future of his home

You Are
You are quick, I am slow
You are exalted, I am low
You are perceptive, I am dull
You are wise, and surely so
You have knowledge, I have none
You are wisdom's only son
You are versed, I am dumb
Where you go I can't come
You are open, I am shut
You are scholarly, I the nut
You are greater, I am less
You are purer than our mess
You are us, I am none
To all you welcome, to all I shun
You are leading, I am retreating
You are shepherd, I am bleating
You are fire, I am hay
You are money, I am...

Battle Hymn of the Republic (var. 2)
My life has seen the coming of the glory of the Lord
He has led the saintly armies of the heavens high adored
He has given man the grace to pray to spare him from the sword
His Truth is marching on!
He has led the saintly armies of the heavens high adored
He has given man the grace to pray to spare him from the sword
His Truth is marching on!

There, Within
Though it seems a bit improper
Properly I shall remark
Now that we are all together
Listen well; my little Arc
Whom among the mortals knoweth
Whom among the living say
Why the daylight gives its pow'r
For the best and perfect day
He who gives the rule of knowledge
He who still deposed kings
ELOHIM is all with glory
He who knows the secret things
By him, princes rule and reign
By him fields obtain the rain
By him kingdoms fall and gain
By him, all things live
To love again

Kansan Snow
Yesterday the snow appeared
So mild as the meadow lark
With none to lash and none so feared
His every hail lifts their embark
Who can know the wonder, then
As why the seasons sing so quick
The snow that floats on down to men
Gives space to light the candle's wick
Here's a blessing, heretofore
Who's never felt so warm before
Beside my fellow Kansan friends
Who warm their hands to make amends
So mild as the meadow lark
With none to lash and none so feared
His every hail lifts their embark
Who can know the wonder, then
As why the seasons sing so quick
The snow that floats on down to men
Gives space to light the candle's wick

The Fruit of Joy
Just as all have found their portion
Oh, what sweet and subtle taste
You have found the fruits of spirit
Justice doesn't hide her face
Only ask and it is given
Yearly, daily, moments soon
Jaded times or filled with pleasure
On the hour or at noon
Yes, at midnight in your life
Jackals may attack; though fail
Omnipotent help is there
Yearning as the passing gale!
"Joyful, joyful we adore thee"
Oh! what melody we love
You have found its secret splendor
Just as hail is from above
One gives knowledge of the fruit ...

A Bondservant
There was a time when it was proper
And proper too a time to end
Long ago in sin and death
This broken soul had found his friend
Apart from all he called his own
He reaped the fruits he hadn't sown
Ease and luxury banded chains
And death's malevolence brought pains
Forged within the fires of depravity
Of the greatest gravity
There within the felon's box
He saw the judge in chains and locks
And higher still the whole commotion
Was purely for his deep devotion
His drugs and avarice and greed
Paid dividends he...

He saw the judge in chains and locks

Was purely for his deep devotion
