The Devils Lair
Deliberately, I cut through the membrane
Separating me from you.
I am scared of what I might find,
But I miss you so much!
You have been on the other side for so long,
And I could feel you there the entire time.
Every little movement,
For as long as I can remember.
Once I have made it through,
I discover nothing new.
You look exactly like me.
You have the same thoughts.
There is disillusion and emptiness behind your eyes,
Just like mine.
You are a mirror,
The reflection in the water,
And i am Narcissus,...
Separating me from you.
I am scared of what I might find,
But I miss you so much!
You have been on the other side for so long,
And I could feel you there the entire time.
Every little movement,
For as long as I can remember.

The Act
You cast me in your play,
And before I knew it
It was opening night.
The audience filed in.
The curtains rose.
The spotlight shone.
Show-time.
I said all my lines
Just like you wanted.
I played my part well.
The critics loved me.
Blood and tears during intermission.
Standing ovations and melodrama.
Bruises under our costumes and make-up.
Everyone knows it’s an act.
I take a bow.
The curtain falls.
And before I knew it
It was opening night.
The audience filed in.
The curtains rose.
The spotlight shone.
Show-time.
I said all my lines

The Bomb
The brightness was blinding.
Flashing harsh and bright.
The fall-out was catastrophic.
Bomb-shells littered the floor,
And there was blood everywhere,
Here and there a limb,
Rubble,
Smoke.
You had blown us away.
We awoke in a daze,
Covered in gauze.
You were a complete disaster.
We did our best to survive you.
We nursed our wounds.
Some of us died.
Later, we hid the scars and tried to forget you,
But there were pieces of you lodged under our skin,
Like shrapnel,
Safely encased in our scar...

You should tie me down:
It’s the least you could do.
Instead, you leave me to wander around
Bleary-eyed,
Groping,
Blindly reaching out for anything,
Anything at all,
But finding nothing,
Nothing at all.
The emptiness greets my fingertips eagerly.
I doubt you have even noticed that I am dying.
Literally.
Look at me,
Stumbling around town.
How humiliating!
Suddenly I drop
In a heap on the ground
Crumpled and small.
I’ve outdone myself this time.
What a scene!
Typical.
It’s the least you could do.
Instead, you leave me to wander around
Bleary-eyed,
Groping,
Blindly reaching out for anything,

Intervention
All of your battles were won
With the aid of your bullets and gun.
You felt so much bigger
When you pulled the trigger;
You finally felt like someone.
You took me and locked me away.
Fresh water and food everyday.
I suffered a lot,
But deserved what I got;
I had so many debts to repay.
You gagged me and bound me in chains,
Poured buckets of bleach on my stains.
I struggled at first,
But it only got worse,
So I suffered the aches and the pains.
You strove to correct every flaw.
My defects were all that you saw....
With the aid of your bullets and gun.

You found me lying on the floor
Holding in my entrails,
Blood pouring out of me like a death-bed confession.
I could tell by your eyes that you thought I deserved it.
You picked me up,
And like a monster you carried me off.
You threw me down on the table
And gathered your needle and thread.
You stitched me up so savagely
It hurt more than the wound.
You violently nursed me back to life,
No tender shadows in your eyes.
I was convinced I would die.
You should see the scars!
But, in the end you did it;
You...

The Void
I fell into the abyss.
It happened suddenly,
Without warning or fanfare.
Before I knew it,
I was enveloped and swaddled
In a vast and empty stillness.
The silence held secrets.
Words, shrouded in secrecy,
Hoarsely whispered their meanings in my ear.
At first, I struggled and fought,
Kicked with all my might,
Convinced of my conviction.
I raged at the inherent attributes of absence,
Terrified by its casual desolation.
But,
Gradually I saw the true nature of the void.
It was infinitely...
