POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have a difficult time showing my work to my friends and family, so I plan on using this to get my work out there. Although I may not use this much, I hope that when I do, I receive feedback that will help me grow as a writer.
The Colorado Mountains At 3 A.m
The mountain air
is as pure as the moonlight
that pierces through the darkness
guiding me as I drive through
the man made streets covered by snow
from Nature trying to reclaim
what was once its own
I pull over next to a lake
frozen in time wishing the memories
made here would do the same
I step out into the cold night air
The moonlight reflects off the lake and snow
I’m consumed by the white lights
of Heavens gates welcoming me to a better life
as my body stiffens and hands go numb

Reflection
The waves crash rhythmically against the sand. They slowly rise, as droplets of water, unable to hold on, descend back into the ocean. When they’ve reached their peak, they crash into the earth, absorbed by the sand on impact. Immediately after, another smacks the ground. For a moment, silence replaces the echos of abused sand, until the ocean begins to recede and rise again to continue dancing for the moon. A pier extends into the water. Its blue wooden floor creaks under the shifting weight of fishermen leaning on the railings, staring out at the seemingly endless sea, patiently waiting for...

My Hero
My Grandpa can barely stand,
but can walk like a Dodge Ram
using his cane as his steering wheel
and throwing his walker aside
while shrugging off the remarks
and ignoring grandma as she barks
at him to slow down.
He can’t hear you,
so he’ll laugh and say
I love you.
Then go back to watching T.V
as you forgive him for not answering
because you know he means it.
A man who can barely see
tripping over everything and hurting himself.
Then recovering despite the odds
of a hip replacement at his age.

Prayer For The Sick
I walk into the ICU with a priest
and enter my Grandmothers room.
Her smile as radiant as the sun
chasing away the nightmares and sleepless nights,
a look exclusively for a Grandson.
The priest follows me in
and I’m positive it’s a mistake.
She was doing better…
But it’s my mistake because she shares it.
The look reserved for me
is given to him. Color comes back to her pale yellow skin
and her baggy brown eyes ignite a spark of hope
I could never give her.
The nightmares are crawling back
and I try to...

He’s speeding down a highway going anywhere
as long as it’s a 1000 miles from here
His radio drowned out by the sound
of a garbage bag violently flapping
from the wind trying to blow it away
He breathes in the cool night air
feeling his body slowly relaxing
like a patient scared for their life
as they finally let the anesthesia take them away
He looks out at the open fields
and chuckles knowing that where ever he ends up
will be nothing like the city he's coming from
The toxically thick air is slowly consumed
by the brisk...

I sit in darkness
and allow my mind to wander
as I stare into nothingness
My eyes sting like a sore
throat when trying to swallow
A tear slides down my cheek
like a rain drop on a window
but I don't move or blink
My body is a rock
unmoved and lifeless
and my apartment is a time machine
preserving the world around me
A volcanic eruption disrupts
my haze and everything around me
as a train passes by screaming
like a banshee
I stand up trying to see through
the fog that has infected my head ...

The waiting room
a purgatory for the living
where you hear the flatline ringing out
singing to welcome the new soul
to a world of uncertainty
and with each ring I jump
It’s a constant horror movie not knowing
if the next songs dedicated to you
But sitting in this ugly green chair
surrounded by white walls that merge
into a never ending hall
where devils of your past
take the form of men and women that pass
Walking down the hall like aisles
towards the alter at a wedding
are convincing me that I could be next
A child is...

Apologies
Our bed floating in a ocean of lies
The drowning sensation amplified
by no rest with a icy pain in my chest
Nothing left but death
and her soft voice in my head
saying, “I’m sorry.”
sorry, sorry, sorry
Apologies driving me insane
A dream, but I'm not dreaming
Sleep paralysis, but I'm not sleeping
Holding me under with suffocating lies
The truth is something I always let die
because without you there’s no life
but with you I'm not living
I’ll learn to swim and you can drown
i’m sorry
