That appetite
Winds around your windpipe
Choking out your voice
As if you even had a choice
Crushing your very skull
With every swipe and pull
It creeps in
It strikes cold
Nothing to see here
Nothing to say
Just watch what it does
At the end of the day

Bleeding Heart
People have said
You wear your heart on your sleeve
So I guess that means
You’re open love, be loved and be seen
But as for me
My heart is buried deep within
In a place where no one knows the sin
It took with it all my hope
Even though I know
It was all stripped away with just one stroke
People have said
The heart wants what it wants
So I think that means
You just go for it, sight unseen
You’re willing and eager to follow that dream
But as for me
My heart wants what it will have see
Never have no matter...

The Filament
There was this invisible thread
I know that’s so cliché really
But there it was, only perceivable in the right light
For me it was moonlight
For her it was sunlight
But oh how it shone
So bright everyone could see
Could see us, us together, us happy, us bonded and bound to one another
Us
We felt like it was strong, so strong
Like maybe if we went fishing it could reel in a shark
Not even the shark would see it coming
For me it felt like sturdy concrete
For her it felt like a sailor’s rope
Strong for me, flexible for...

That I must summon from the deep
Tear down the hands
That think I will infiltrate those who

I read your words
And I felt nothing but lightning
In the space between what’s timeless
Not forgotten
But I can’t, I just can’t
Walk right back into your house
No longer my house
Like nothing happened
Like you never snapped and
Tossed my heart from the balcony
Where you use to sit with me
Laugh with me
Watch the fireworks with me
Now I’ll let you be
With those words floating freely
Down to the water’s edge
Where they can melt and stretch
Into all the sunsets we took pictures of
The dock where we held...

EMOTALING

So many boxes
Reaching all the way to the
End of the driveway
Like a house of cards
Spiraling up into the blue sky
I feel
I think
I judge
Myself all at once

To deteriorate
To evaporate into
Nothing
And everything
Letting stress gnaw your bones
And exhaustion
Be the hot water that melts
Your skull
The hands of anxiety
Holding your face
Your trauma
Saying just let me
Pull you up and away
From all of this
Spinning a silk cocoon
Of fatigue
Collapsing in on itself
You hear it whisper
Give in

Tea is the Only Thing that Helps
There are days when I feel
Helpless
Like my life has been measured
In spoonfuls
And now the medicine bottle is Empty
And my skin hurts
More often than I tell you
And my eyes weep
Filling all the teacups
And...
I have a lot of them
You'll stumble over them
And then rattle and clatter to the floor
Like bones
And then everything
Everything
Becomes engulfed in
One immense accident
On those days
When I feel helpless
Extra sensitive
On edge
And the only thing that helps
Is swirling...

Bite Marks
You’ve got scars
We all do
Look at these, don’t forget
It’s a battle wound
From a fall with no net
And then
There are the ones
No one can see
Pierced marrow to start
Further in, a
Punctured heart
Maybe one day
She’ll pull up her sleeve
And show you the one
From when she couldn’t grieve
The one that she used to relieve
The swollen parts of her
That never could find peace

Interweaved
With battle scars
Wounds from thieves

What it feels like to burn alive
When you’re drowning inside
In a room full of tears
You built for yourself
How hard it is
To take another step forward
Knowing it means
He’s another step back
What it feels like to be denied
When all you want for him to know you tried
In a letter full of fears
You wrote yourself
How hard it is
To look at that face
And try to remember anything but
