POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Seethe
Seethe
Through the window
I saw it
the summer ripe tree
a silhouette
in the tired light
the wind
hot and harsh
rippled the leaves
and I saw it
made of shadows
and borrowed blues
strange constellations
in the flutter of velvet
stars that seethed
with stories untold

Hints of Frost
Hints of Frost
Jack's spidery trace
crumpled the impatien
slew the bridal cherry
stunted the shy violet
but could not cow
the defiant hellebore

Refrigerator Gallery at the Louvre
Refrigerator Gallery at the Louvre
Hung by souvenir magnet sets
on a finger smudged door
is the Refrigerator Gallery:
utterly perfect works
by unacknowledged genius
yet only those gifted enough
preceive the primitive artistry
for the masterpieces they are
cliched and crude and naked
as the Emperor and his entourage
who exiled that ignorant child
who dared to voice a simple truth
a truth many children face and heed
yet the wiser, the older, the brighter
still fail to comprehend simply...

Fitzwilliam's Dodo
Fitzwilliam's Dodo
It was the age of Austen
Mad George enthroned
when Mauritius came
under the Empire's rule
And with it, the tale
of an impossible thing
a flightless bird
half the size of a man
A bird no one had seen
in a giant tortoise's age
time in which elders
became the ancestors
Long years before the unicorn
had whisked the Endling away
his tribe ravaged by factions
of rats and humans and hogs
From bones in dank peat ...

And Still
And Still
Doors both
hall and closet
closed tight
Toes and nape
covered, the blanket
a shield, softly bright
And still there is
an odd tingle
of primal fright

Rumble
there are those
who fear the roar
of raucous thunder
when they do not
understand
the fierceness
of the wild light

Air Riff
Air Riff
Dance as never before
hearts, minds entranced
body in motion
fluid and chaotic
retaliation Jack Black taught
to haunt the source
of these broken dreams
dance to a perfect air riff

Spoons and Stars
Spoons and Stars
A line in the sand, held hard at the 36th Parallel
at the cliff face the famed and fabled Star Socks
and a troll of unprecedented bitterness and wrath
who blocked the forward and backway unto right.
And Star Socks, who had faced the Right Hand
of the No Man down, now saw the chasm loom,
an abyss of twisted anger, the need to hurt, but
most importantly destroy all who dared to shine.
Poor Star Socks Fox, damned for his own love
of parables, legends, lores kept safe in his stars.
Stars that had damned him...

Music Like Venom
Music Like Venom
The first notes
four chords of power
strike clean and true
too loud in my ears
idiot lights ignored
as music like venom
seeps deep in my skin
the silent intoxicant
a supple neurotoxin
as I lay down my mask
and trust my self
to just let go
and dare to dance
knowing no one can see
the masterful disaster
of dyspraxic, chaotic joy
Tchotchkes rattle in time
on the off beat of one
missed two and three
as my socks skim
safer than any skate
on asphalt or ice ...

The Unicorn at Occam's River
Unicorn at Occam’s River
One cloven hoof pawed the shore,
sand and desiccated silt billowed
like a cluttered thought unspoken,
in the shadow of an elder willow.
At day’s death throes she waited
for the brazen fool, a false prophet,
who sought to assume the identity
of innocence like those at Tophet.
But it was those buried at Tophet
who would have known the truth
of the Fool Prophet, but they were
lost. Their sad fate utterly ruthless.
And it was for those blameless lost,
she lurked, a skulldugger...
