POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I try to write poetry on a wide variety of topics, sometimes easily accessible, others requiring a little more thought. I put effort into writing it so you might need to put effort into reading it. I have been published in a few local magazines.
Selfishly Spun
Spider, why do you
sit lifeless on
my nicely decorated wall?
Is it not, my wall
to sit upon so still?
Spider, why do you crawl
all legs
upon my wall?
A wall so creamily smooth is surely for me
and me only, to sprawl upon?
You take from me,
and leave me nothing but
shabby, silken webs
stuck in dark corners I hope to avoid.
I wouldn't hurt a fly, how about you?
Spider?
Your silence is worse
than your bite.
You sit
you crawl
you sit
you
crawl
I give you everything, and you...
sit lifeless on
my nicely decorated wall?
Is it not, my wall
to sit upon so still?
Spider, why do you crawl
all legs
upon my wall?
A wall so creamily smooth is surely for me
and me only, to sprawl upon?
You take from me,
and leave me nothing but
shabby, silken webs
stuck in dark corners I hope to avoid.
I wouldn't hurt a fly, how about you?
Spider?
Your silence is worse
than your bite.
You sit
you crawl
you sit
you
crawl
I give you everything, and you...

Marketplace Maze
I find myself in the marketplace maze,
dazzled with distraction by the myriad
coral and tan walkways,
winding this way and that, enticing me
to discover where they lead.
Magenta Saris do their dance around me,
Swirling and swooning, they take a bow,
beckoning me through the crowded streets
and open courtyards where merchants chatter.
The aroma of honest leather greets me at every corner,
the orchestra of oxen and goats conduct me
through the narrow passages, bursting into song
with every escape from the shaded alleys.

And the Candle Burns
Bright spark of ignition.
Light creeps off of table's edge
brushing dusty, granite walls
and the candle burns.
Tall and lean, unblemished wax
youthful promise of plenty.
Darkness knows no ally
and the candle burns.
Established, steady, even flame
accompanying whisper warmth
bringing comfort to the gathered
and the candle burns.
Weary flare now withdrawn
as wax wrinkles, warping,
only traces of pillar past remain,
and the candle burns
out.
