POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Expressing myself in words is one of my most valuable skills.
Uphill battle
I can't decide,
Is this climbing up or sliding down?
I think it's both,
Gripping rope on slippery slopes --
Looking down, I dread the ground
The fall is harder
the farther up we go.
Looking up, I'm feeling stuck
The chance grows greater
That we might not make it up at all
Is this climbing up or sliding down?
I think it's both,
Gripping rope on slippery slopes --
Looking down, I dread the ground
The fall is harder
the farther up we go.
Looking up, I'm feeling stuck
The chance grows greater
That we might not make it up at all

High horse
From what you can see at a distance,
It's easy to run without having a clue
We are entitled to form an opinion,
It's only a guess if you don't try the shoes
Maybe it's fun to paint up a picture,
Drawn from a limited view
The story is much more exciting,
If you write it from misguided news
I understand that minding your manners,
Means minding your business too
It's not polite to nose-poke and meddle
But it's also not nice to assume
It's defined as being judgmental,
When you point without knowing the truth
It's one thing...

In this moment
I must be a gruesome sight,
In the midst of my apathy
You must be disgusted to see me
Drowning in doubt and self pity
You are cruel at times,
I'm down but you just keep hitting
We both fall short of admitting
How the bark always turns to a bite
In the moment we may think we're winning
But we are losing much more than the fight
We are dying
We always were from the start
I feel lonely...I desperately hoped to be happy
In this moment, I am not
In the midst of my apathy
You must be disgusted to see me

Perfection
Perfection
I believe knowledge is power,
but ignorance is much more convenient
Tho I am torn by the bliss of not giving a shit,
I can't ignore my inquisitive nature
From one extreme to the next;
I must have read every book on the subject,
but I never mastered the art of balance --
Equilibrium must not be my talent
Some people take little convincing
but I need extensive review,
A full on investigation,
A lengthy interrogation,
with a minimum of eight dozen questions -- ...

Masking tape label
I struggled to throw it away,
The empty package with my name
My name and the date in black marker ink
On a torn piece of masking tape label
Staring at black marker scribble,
I pondered how something so simple
caused sadness to spill down my cheeks
while bringing a smile to my face
In the minute it takes to fashion a label,
I know I crossed your mind for a fraction
You've been gone for over a year,
Three more from the date written under my name
I know how you would be laughing,
rolling your eyes at my silly reaction
Over a label...

Many Times
I've never wished upon a star
I've seen them shoot across the sky
Once or twice
Never got my hopes that high
But I dreamed about it
Many times,
So many times
The older I get the less I know
The things I've learned about life
Wrong and right
Never showed me where to go
And I've cried about it
Many times,
So many times
I get confused about the finer things
What I want and what I have
In my hands
I see myself through everyone else
Denied my eyes the view
Many times,
So many times ...

Waiting
The middle feels like a waste
I detest being stuck in one place
Waiting
How I hate it
Pacing,
Clawing the walls,
Thinking
Is there something I missed?
I have questions --
What's the lesson in this?
What's the message?
A sign would be nice
with an arrow --
Pointing the right direction
If a sign is too clear
A hint would subdue
My oppression --
A few words as a clue
for my silent review
My discretion --
If there is naught to be sent
without epic event
I can learn from ill-boding disaster...

Crumbs
That's how the cookie crumbles
Falling pieces on the floor
Remember how it was
When all was whole, intact, complete;
Every bite we took, we took for granted
Wasting all that we receive
Just a little, not enough--
Soon frantically devoured,
Consuming all down to the last,
'Till all is gone and nothing left
Nothing left but empty hands
and crumbs around our feet
The taste is always sweet;
Enticing us to eat
Melting pride upon the tongue
distracted, smacking lips
Demanding treats
Greedy mouths are easily deceived...

Completely His
I am his completely
I am completely his
I think I always have been
Not because I believe in fairytales,
fate, or happy endings
But because of how I feel
When he is with me
I knew commitment
I can stick to what I have to,
but this is different
We are more
like pieces fitting in
He has more than words,
a promise of my presence
I love him
Not by duty or obligation
But by what it is
Who he is
And who he makes me
My body has been touched before
But my soul...

The Promise
She stood and watched out through the window
The day was passing fast
With half the work still left to do
A little voice came from behind,
"Momma, can I play with you?"
She sighed as she replied
"I don't really have the time,
There is still much left to do
and too much on my mind."
She smiled and sent the child along her way
Outside she ran and then began
To dance and twirl and sing
Her mother watched behind the glass
And almost pulled the shade--
But stopped to watch instead
The girl is so...

Among the Best Of Them
He would have kept his dreams,
tried harder to make sense of things
If life had been more kind
to the boy he used to be
The struggle of forgiveness never ends;
The bitterness began when he was young
It's hard to understand
what it is to be a man,
if all you know is how to run
He felt pain in ways none could explain
And couldn't keep it off his sleeve
Anger spewed from missing pieces;
He tried everything to get away
No one understood why he was different
He struggled just to understand himself
He hardly knew the...

Timing is everything
It took half my life;
Maybe less, maybe more
To realize that potential
Is almost always circumstantial --
You either see it, or you don't
Second guessing is hard work
Neither talent nor ability
Can sustain a stubborn heart
A foot can't find stability
If it can't choose where to start --
The line is fine between humility and pride
You either find it, or you don't
Talent is a double sided sword
The weight of capability
Brings a great responsibility
With a price;
You either pay it, or you don't
Maybe less, maybe more
To realize that potential
Is almost always circumstantial --
You either see it, or you don't
Second guessing is hard work
