POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I'm a lyricist, I write simply what I feel.
Letters to Dallas (Dirty Soul)
This is the story of a girl,
Who got her masters in running.
She keeps all things to herself
You never know when she's coming.
And she loves with such recklessness
You never know who she came for.
But when she knocks, you open the door.
She writes letters back to Dallas,
Because its where she found herself.
She puts her blood into the ink,
Cries her tears down her bathroom sink.
Isn't she just beautiful?
Right down to her dirty soul.
She has girls standing in line,
For something they can never have.
No one can really...
Who got her masters in running.
She keeps all things to herself
You never know when she's coming.
And she loves with such recklessness
You never know who she came for.
But when she knocks, you open the door.
She writes letters back to Dallas,
Because its where she found herself.
She puts her blood into the ink,
Cries her tears down her bathroom sink.
Isn't she just beautiful?
Right down to her dirty soul.
She has girls standing in line,
For something they can never have.
No one can really...

Nobody (Get's Down like We Do)
We were hungry, hungry, hippies
it was in the middle of march.
We took pills that made us fast friends
and we created our own church.
Together we went off the grid
we let our phone batteries die
and in a circle of our friends
we passed the bong and we got high.
Nobody get's down like we do
keep the rhythm, we love to move.
count the steps out in our heads
feel it in our fingers, then our legs
Nobody get's down like we do
it's in our blood, we love to move.
It was the middle of summer
your air conditioning went out.

Dearest Mandy
Well you have changed,
but oh, see so have I.
Where you are dark
I am still starry-eyed.
Where I am rocks,
you come in like a wind.
to let me know
that life begins again.
Dearest Mandy,
remember all the times?
We said, "fuck it",
stayed in on Friday night.
Who needs all that?
it's all playing games.
and I'll have your back,
if you do the same.
You have my word,
for whatever it's worth.
I'll follow you
to all ends of this earth.
What don't you know?
and what haven't you seen? ...
but oh, see so have I.
Where you are dark
I am still starry-eyed.

Bundle Up
You could have told me happy birthday
they are just two little words.
But they'd beat all of the other ones
that today, I have already heard.
So you think you're looking swell now?
with your pockets filled up with green
but a temp job and a summer tan
well it doesn't add up to self esteem.
When I said, "best I ever had"
I wasn't even twenty-four yet.
So don't let that crowd your head.
I can say it stone cold sober
that this game is far from over
bundle up, babe
it's only getting colder.
You like to get me on the...

Grand Scheme of Things (The Last Song)
You want to be sophisticated,
nice shoes and drinking your fancy beer,
but I don't see men in attendance,
it's just a room full of kids in here.
so you will smoke a cigarette,
while you talk about how you'll quit.
the day is coming, fast and quick,
but you're a liar and we all know it.
yeah we all know it.
this is the last song about you,
can't say that I feel that bad.
at this point in the program
I can see just what we had.
in the grand scheme of things, baby
well it's just not that bad.
Well, you have to...

Marble and Lace
You can taste her,
but can't take her,
anywhere, anyplace.
You can touch her,
but can't love her,
she's marble and she's lace.
You can have her,
but can't keep her,
as is always the case.
sweet like a milkshake,
built like a mistake
why don't you take a number?
sparks like a lighter
hits like a fighter
looks like we got another
another runner.
You don't know her,
but you hold her,
just as if she matters.
You say, "don't go,
but you need to"
the illusion shatters.

Cease and Desist
You don't owe me anything
no explanation for this.
Just do me a favor
take me off your contact list.
do your best to forget
me and our little tryst
how you liked my hair down
and the tattoo on my wrist.
no need to see me
or tell me I'll be missed.
I wouldn't believe you now
so I call cease and desist.
I didn't think I'd ever be here
but I've had enough of this.
cease and desist.
I don't see why you told me
that we should go get drinks
just so you could ignore me
next time...

Freudian Slip
If I could tell you one thing,
I couldn't say what it would be.
Pick a card out of a stack
say some more shit you can't take back.
Put another hole in my head
bullets formed out of words you said.
thank god we had an audience
so people knew if they won their bets
I just wanted to go home and go to bed
but you said, "no, babe, not yet"
You said, "I don't know what happened
because I really missed you until..."
then you trailed off, I know where it ends.
"something, something, let's be friends.

Smashed (Breaking up)
Thirty two days since we last spoke
about twenty since I lost all hope
in you acting like a grown up
if you won't, I won't, I think you suck.
So this is how it's gonna be
it's more than all right with me
draw a line and stay on your side
fingers crossed, I'll stay on mine.
I threw away your favorite shirt
I had cigarettes for dessert.
and I'm not sorry, not even a little.
I smashed the lighter I stole from you
but it's okay cause you smashed me too
breaking up, we're breaking up.
So maybe we weren't in the...

Saturn
Tell me I'm pretty
Tell me that I'm sweet
tell me anything
talk me off this ledge
back down to the street
metaphorically,
I would never dream
a selfish exit
always seemed to me
a little too mean.
but my heads not right
can't break the pattern
want to reach to you
you're so far off you
could be on Saturn.
time to stop dreaming
of anything ever after.
Now would be the time
to come on over
I'm thinking too much
a little too alone
and much too sober.
I...

Morning's Without You
Morning's without you
well they're morning's without you.
Take my dog on a walk
try not to think about you.
but, I do, I do, I do.
Still don't smoke cigarettes
but partake in Mary-Jane.
I still like those TV shows
and staying in bed when it rains.
I drink out with your friends
and dance until I can't walk.
I go home with somebody new
and I make sure we don't talk.
Talking leads to feeling
and we saw where that left me.
Walking to my car while you
went back into the party.
Morning's without you
well...
well they're morning's without you.

Breakfast
I'm a bit of a riot,
a believer in
if you fuck it
then you buy it
at least breakfast
buy me, breakfast
I said.
and if you try it
just to find that
after one time
that you like it
don't get eager
boys get eager
I want a man.
so unwrap me slowly
like you waited all day
show me patience
and I'll beg you to stay.
touch me like you know how
not like you need to be shown
men like you, make a lady
want to get you alone.
You can work a dance floor
makes me wonder
what all of that
rhythm...
a believer in
if you fuck it
then you buy it
at least breakfast
buy me, breakfast
