POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Though I'm still finding my voice, I'm confident that it will grow from a whisper to a scream...
Broken Muses
lyrical buildup
frustrated imagination held in suspension
scribbles and scratches
a kin to claw marks in concrete
tally futile attempts to undam my thoughts
a clot of creativity
no tool, no weapon sufficient
how do you vanquish an unidentifiable opponent?
sheer determination produces fissures
and a slow leak
hints of prose
as I continue my search for the proper method
to eradicate the occlusion
and set forth the hemorrhage of my soul
in indigo ink

Honesty is the Best Policy
oh honey please don't
blow any smoke up my ass
I do have asthma

Color Me...
What's in my purse?
just stuff...
mainly makeup
mostly lies
They tell you it's "okay" to be broken
but they leave out the part
no one wants to caress sharp edges
so I smooth them
with fabricated feelings
Lining the sparkle back into my eyes
concealing the sleepless nights
adding the rosy blush of a giggle
glossing a smile over my lips
Covering the battered veneer of an ugly truth
and the best laid schemes of mice and men

When It Rains...
too late to be awake
the midnight hour
only for lovers and the lonely
so I lie coiled in this blanket
pretending to be invisible
because nights are the worst
and if I'm not here
I don't have to be here alone
I close my eyes
letting the fractured rhythm of my heart
sing backup to raindrops on my window
and pray they outnumber my tears

Asphalt and Bullshit
You spin me round in circles
Why do I endure what you put me through?
Because...
You've got me by the nuts
Oh you're so tired, exhausted even...
What about me?
I pull you when you don't even have the will to push yourself!
When your days are rainy and cold
That's when you use me the most
Riding me til I'm soaking wet
Leaving trails
Tales of my torture
You steer me off course
Drag me through mud, throw dirt on my name until who I am is almost unrecognizable
Except for the fact that I just keep letting you spin me
Round and...

Reassurance
Lay your head on my pillow
Be with me in the shadow
Oh how it felt to be yours for the night
Run my fingers across your skin
Familiar even when light is thin
Like braille I can read your body right
I'll tell you my secret
With you I'm safe, so you'll keep it
Just like you did many moons ago
Then I'll tell you my dreams
And you'll believe in those things
Tell me to go out and make them so
I'll tell you that I'm broken
Or I'm way too outspoken
And I already know what you'll say
I'm beautiful and strong
You find heaven in my arms...
Be with me in the shadow
Oh how it felt to be yours for the night
Run my fingers across your skin
Familiar even when light is thin
Like braille I can read your body right
I'll tell you my secret

Help Me, Help You
I want so badly to scream out to her
Shake her and tell her to run
Save her from a voluntary decent into hell
Be the savior that I lacked
But I can't
I can't rescue her from the fire that will reduce her hope and faith to a terrible heap of heartache and desolation
I can't even feel remorse for the agony that will wrack her body
Because I haven't healed my own soul
Ripped apart at the seams while wild oats were sown
So I will do what everyone else did as I burned
Sit on the bucket and watch
And pray that a phoenix rises from the ashes
Shake her and tell her to run
Save her from a voluntary decent into hell
Be the savior that I lacked
But I can't
I can't rescue her from the fire that will reduce her hope and faith to a terrible heap of heartache and desolation
I can't even feel remorse for the agony that will wrack her body

Howling
The cold autumn air
Is nothing compared to the sting of the bitterness of my broken heart
Whose only enticement to beat comes from the aspiration
That in the thick of the night
When the world is asleep
Your eyelids quiver and your body tosses and turns
You are seared with frustration
And the other side of the pillow brings no relief
From the torture of karma and the pain that you caused
Drowning in the tears you take no responsibility for
And that you await with baited breath
For the death of your dreams to be swift
For...

Retreat
The summer scorched the Earth and lit internal flames in the forest
That tickled its smolder up from the roots
And slowly erupted in a blaze of glory onto its leaves
Almost as if the presence of flaxen and crimson signaled the end of battle
A diminished inferno
Now those who survived
Hidden deep in the brush
Are free to venture out under the cover of night
The path illuminated by the autumnal torch of the limb
To collect their bearings and broken hearts
And push ahead
For the journey, while nearer to its end, is far from over

Camelot
She began to undress slowly
Behind the slumbering back of the man who would relinquish his entire kingdom
To bow his head into her lap
Yet too much is never enough
So she fell, victim
To devouring eyes
Possibly hungry herself for attention
She examines the heat of her flesh
Handprints of passionate possession
Wounds inflicted by fiery release
The marks of the vampire to whom she'd surrendered her soul
Siege was not required to penetrate the fortress
Just a few...

The Rise of the Curtain
I willed myself to be still
I knew that my heart belonged in these arms
Yet my voice promised it to another
I convinced myself that I deserved at least one night
To be his alone
Nothing worse than a liar with a guilty conscious
The sunrise brought the beginning of Act 1
The inaugural performance of dedicated lover
Though my soul was intertwined with the one who'd accompanied my dress rehearsal
Never wanted to be the cause of a broken heart, so I became the bearer of one
Surrendered my future for his heart's...

Giggling in a Stranger's Ear
She giggles
Low...
Like her inhibitions tonight
Under the influence of whiskey and brown eyes that seem to offer not a thing but a good time
The residuals of which she's bound to stand in the shower trying to wash off until the water turns as cold as the hope she clings onto so tightly
Slow...
Like the fingers winding through her curls
Plotting
How to pick the lock and escape the cage in the amount of time it takes to release the fury that's been held in for too long, far too long
Deep...
Like the depths to which he plans to dive
Uncharted territory...
