POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I started writing during the Great Recession. That time turned into a hidden blessing. After becoming re-employed, I kept writing. My themes are always inspirational, colors, love, desert or Christian.

By a gently flowing creek
By a gently flowing creek
I saw a swallowtail flutter
About my head, as though meek
And land softer than a feather.
He was large enough, I swear
To sit in all of my hand.
He did not mind that I was there
Or that I was entranced.
Soon, a second butterfly
Distracted him by swooping down
His mate, I surmised.
How fiercely they swirled around!
Then breaking up, they moored
To sup water from the red rock
Like two tasters of one accord
Complimenting the good stock.

Frolic - frolic along with me
Frolic - frolic along with me
And be as a spritely fawn
Running carelessly through the reeds
As best we can imagine.
Let's traipse across the rivulet
Where a log fell in the right place.
What luck that we should find it
Like it knew of our escapade!
The shrubs have something to say;
Small murmurs are thrown to the wind.
They catch up to us and whizz by
But we've not a common language.
So wildly about, the winds gush
That my whipped hair looks feral.
We trample the weeds underfoot;
We...

Through a break in the trees -
Through a break in the trees -
Flows a tawny river -
Sanding the rock endlessly
As a peerless carver.
The jungle is not seen
In the murky water's face.
The sky does not skim upon
Its delicate countenance.
It refuses the trees' approach.
The rushing seeks to replace
Tribulations for peace -
Skipping them away.
Its waters fill my mind.
I remember Zongo Falls
As an obscure haven
For which my heart longs.
Flows a tawny river -
Sanding the rock endlessly
As a peerless carver.
The jungle is not seen
In the murky water's face.

Weeds as tall as children
Weeds as tall as children
Partially hide the dusty windows.
A long silence hangs
Where once promise echoed.
Broken glass fills the street
Glittering like emeralds
To some to a majority
Proving their travails.
Partially hide the dusty windows.
A long silence hangs
Where once promise echoed.
Broken glass fills the street
Glittering like emeralds
To some to a majority
Proving their travails.

Im envious of the clouds
Im envious of the clouds
That float happily in the sun
Changing into colorful shrouds
Lumping from many into one.
Their most compatible friend
The wind, admits
They beautify the high heaven.
Nebulosity permits
Travel without a passport.
They slip away on a whim
For a days length or more
And return a denizen.
That float happily in the sun
Changing into colorful shrouds
Lumping from many into one.
Their most compatible friend
The wind, admits
They beautify the high heaven.

Grass is a taut crew;
Grass is a taut crew;
They stand at attention
As soldiers do
With orders from the sun
Never having thoughts
That their purpose is trite
Or any nagging doubts
Or need of strife
That'd disturb their ranks.
How exemplary
I whispered to one blade
To live as they.
They stand at attention
As soldiers do
With orders from the sun
Never having thoughts
That their purpose is trite
Or any nagging doubts
Or need of strife
That'd disturb their ranks.
How exemplary
I whispered to one blade
To live as they.

Just as sleep bested my eyes -
Just as sleep bested my eyes -
There came a looming presence -
Strange and full of mysteries -
That alit upon my rest.
There wasn't a familiar word
Sufficient for such trespass
So silence was the measure
For my unexpected guest.
Time was also dissolved;
Every thought - every breath
Was confounded by a love
I scarcely struggled against
But the hour was growing late
So He flew off to find a heart
More predisposed and awake
And gave me over to the dark.
There came a looming presence -
Strange and full of mysteries -
That alit upon my rest.
There wasn't a familiar word
Sufficient for such trespass
So silence was the measure
For my unexpected guest.
Time was also dissolved;
Every thought - every breath

So He flew off to find a heart

And gave me over to the dark.

Like the Sphinx

Igor lies regally
With eyes closed off
To the world.
He finds his zen
And feels the breeze
But knows not how much
He is revered.

Like gold of Havilah
Like gold of Havilah
God is true and straight.
I can exhort Adonai
For His tender heart.
Be it ambivalence
Or the hour of drear
Wherever prayer is
The Lord abides there.
Royalty and rivalry
May erupt with hate
But He will take my leave
Untouched by the flame.
God is true and straight.

But He will take my leave

Like a sparkling Roman candle
Like a sparkling Roman candle
Parrys penstemon dots the canyon.
Oh, what deep purple bells!
That decorate the trail along
Where pebblestones were swept aside
And sway with the breeze
Not to elicit a reaction
But to accompany green.

That decorate the trail along
Where pebblestones were swept aside
And sway with the breeze
Not to elicit a reaction

When long days drag on me
When long days drag on me
And my soul cries in the dark
Then I speak my prayer in sleight
And He slips it into my jar.
Prithee give it wings to fly up
Beyond to the sapphire throne
Leaving me amidst where I am
Yet I do not feel alone.
Someday when time is cut sharp
I'll retrieve it from Whom I belong
And finding a full jar of prayers
Know that I was never alone.
And my soul cries in the dark
Then I speak my prayer in sleight
And He slips it into my jar.
Prithee give it wings to fly up
Beyond to the sapphire throne
Leaving me amidst where I am
Yet I do not feel alone.
Someday when time is cut sharp
I'll retrieve it from Whom I belong
And finding a full jar of prayers
Know that I was never alone.
