POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Love (possible slam poem, needs suggestions!)
They say that when you press your heart to someone else's,
Eventually your hearts will beat to the same rhythm,
And even though I've always wondered how much truth this statement holds,
I've never been willing to hug someone hard enough to figure it out.
And regardless of whether it's true or not,
I sometimes wonder if that would be a way to tell you how much I love you,
And some people say that Romeo and Juliet was the best love story ever,
But what about when you pick up a shell on the shore,
It knows the sound of the ocean's voice by heart,
And it wants...

My Slam Poem 2013, Needs Some Suggestions!
(Title: My Honest Poem)
Hi, my name is Ashley.
I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall, addicted to coffee and I believe that life has a funny way of doing things.
I like the way the stars line up like soldiers every night,
because it makes me feel safe knowing that they're all battling for me.
You see,
I've been stumbling over my self esteem,
Until the day you finally picked me up and got me back on my feet.
And I love you like the tide loves the shore,
Because even through the highs and lows,
They still meet each other halfway.
My biggest fear in life is death,...

Apples
The first leaves of fall started turning the same day we turned over our first leaf,
You kissed me under the apple tree,
Not stopping to think of when it meant for you and me.
It was like dew drops in the middle of spring,
Drinking off hose water in the end of summer and,
Holding your hand in the beginning of winter.
I never experienced having to spell out l-o-v-e,
But I knew it was true the first time you held me.
I’d love to fall asleep like caterpillars on Aspen leaves,
And wake up transformed with your arms around me.
We’d pick apples in the early...

Not stopping to think of when it meant for you and me.

Rosemary (The Effects of Bullying)
Rosemary plays the cello.
The movement of her sharp bow,
Tickles the strings,
She makes music,
From her soft cries,
In the dark corner of her room.
Rose.
Everyone called you by the beautiful flower you were,
You hid behind Photoshop and usernames,
Using brushes to tug at your perfect petals.
You were the perfect daughter, friend and student,
A caterpillar,
Wrapped up in a cocoon,
Hoping to make it out alive as a butterfly
Mary.
Your dorky glasses and crooked teeth got you many,
Hardcore, metal friends,
You greeted the lockers...

Shut.Up.
It's only 52 minutes.
Only 52 minutes and 27 seconds,
That I have to sit next to you,
Or, used to have to sit next to you.
Only 3 more days.
157 minutes and 21 seconds.
Just as long as you don't feel the need,
To say a sentence at least 157 times,
I'll be fine.
I wish you would just Shut. Up.
I don't want to hear about your weekend,
Or lack thereof.
I don't want to hear about your new best friend,
Or the girl that stole my spot next to you.
I don't want to hear about you at all.
So please,
Just. Shut. Up.
Only 52 minutes and 27 seconds,
That I have to sit next to you,
Or, used to have to sit next to you.

B-U-L-L-I-E-S
Doubleyou, Ayech, Oh, Are, EE.
That's what everybody shouts at me.
Es El You Tea,
That's what everybody yells at me.
En Oh Vee Aye El You Ee Es,
These are the words I have to digest,
En Oh Em Oh Are Aye El Es,
But really I've got them hidden in my chest.
Behind the clothes that I always keep on,
Locked in something you people don't know of,
Stop calling me names,
Stop acting like you know,
This is called high school,
It's not a broadway show.
Doubleyou, Ayech, Oh, Are, EE.
Takes one to know one, can't you see?
Es. El. You and...

The Friendzone Is My Lover
He said we needed to talk and,
As everyone knows,
It wasn't about beautiful flowers or weekend plans,
But instead he said, "about you and me."
We needed to talk,
But did we really need to? Because,
I felt like I could feel your heartbeat everywhere you walked,
And I never wanted it to end like this but,
Here we are talking.
"I think we're better off as friends."
And here I am, remembering the way your smile,
Lit up my life.
And the way when we were still immature I'd,
Watch you walk from your desk to the pencil sharpener....
As everyone knows,
It wasn't about beautiful flowers or weekend plans,
But instead he said, "about you and me."
We needed to talk,
But did we really need to? Because,
I felt like I could feel your heartbeat everywhere you walked,
And I never wanted it to end like this but,
