Portents...
Dread disease begins in the heart
Of humankind's place of birth
Could this be the beginning; is it the start
Of true devastation, the ending of earth?
Let's take a closer look, see: in the distance there, what comes upon us?
Actually, if we're honest
Clear-sighted, courageous, and penetrating
Maybe, we'll admit, without being falsely modest
Intelligence demands vision beyond superficiality, so delving into the meaning
Of portents that abound might behoove us before all is utterly lost
Four horsemen arise
Spreading war, famine, pestilence
And demise
Apocalyptic omens foretold are in play -- and in the foreboding silence
We ignore the signs, grasp to fleeting pleasures given reign
Ebola is one more
Perhaps engineered: who knows?
If so, it's slipped its rein to prey on the poor
And it'll continue on 'til it's consumed those
Who, if they don't create the cure, will heartily abjure the manipulation they used and abused...
Okay, they were four, five-line verses when I wrote them. Really. Formatting is a challenge on here; would you like me to work on changing them, luv? :-p
