Poetry Contest Description
Write something inspired by the movie Labyrinth
In 1980 Jim Henson released a movie starring David Bowie called Labyrinth that surely captured my imagination growing up. Use your memories and inspirations of the film or any of Bowies songs to inspire your own original writing. Stay on topic! This isnt a comp to enter a piece you already wrote that has no connection to anything from the film or one of Bowies songs. "And baby says...."

No one? Ok,then just have any of the words: slime, snails, or puppy dog tails in your piece, or tell me what other kind of spell you might use, and what it would be used for....

Thanks Mom and Dad!
Both of you know
Baby Brother dampens my style,
he’s a burden to me!
But I know,
you’re too busy
living in your own show,
doing your own selfish things,
than to worry about silly me.
God Almighty, this little fella is a cry baby,
he’s ruining my hearing,
I need to stifle this loud trouble,
bring me some Big Sister relief.
The goblins will know what to do,
I’ll conjure up something for him
from the big sky blue!
Just have to wait and see
what they can do to help me.
Good Grief, the Goblin King has
taken the little bugger away to the dark nasty castle.
Christ, in twelve hours, he’ll join the evil band!
Mom and Dad are going to kill me,
make me scream for my deed.
Well, I gotta tell you—
I had to fight through Holy Hell
to get the spoiled impish fella back.
Had to battle big scary monsters,
ward off dangerous spells, even
broke some of my small bones,
that’s all!
It wasn’t easy.
I still hate the little tyke,
he’s got Mom and Dad fooled.
I think next time,
I’ll ask the Devil for assistance,
he's always willing...

- Goblin Queen -
A Tribute to the Movie Labyrinth
Ah sweetest madness that is mine!
The king of the dark realm of Faerie,
King of goblins and creatures dark…
From beyond the counting of time:
In androgynous glory, he came to me.
Did he hear me reading in the park?
The book of the Labyrinth, secret old,
Holding insanity mortals never know:
Until it is too late to reconsider again!
Have I sold my soul, or my brother’s?
The clock ticks, and he will change…
By the magic of the mad goblin king,
That god who knows my every sin:
Who stole that favorite of Mother’s!
Perhaps I am just a little deranged…
For I am happy enough to just sing.
With inhuman creatures for company,
I set off into the Labyrinth to find him.
Not my brother, whom I oft despise,
But the beautiful god, in that castle…
He who reigns with an eternal dignity.
Who has enchanted me at his whim!
He is changing me, oh to my surprise.
My brother was ever such a hassle…
But Mother will go mad if he suffers,
So I must bring him back if I am able.
If he looks like a goblin will it matter?
What if he eats from enchanted table!
I must beware of oubliettes, foul bog,
And other horrors, mad monsters too.
Passing realms of beauty and of fog…
Until the castle of the king, I see true.
Through perils untold, dark dungeon,
Filled with sharp devices of torment!
Even through Hell must I so: ascend.
Beware the rocks that can bludgeon,
And the guardians that might resent,
Intruders who come ‘round the bend!
I pass the perils, the mad logic twists,
Riddles of nonsense and other wiles:
Of Faerie, that: seek to bind wrists…
And ensnare, with an evil that defiles.
Soon I come to the castle, to dance,
In the arms of the king, who I adore!
He gives me a gown like some queen.
My heart is pricked by desire’s lance,
I melt in his arms, a wanton whore…
And I find myself trapped in a dream.
Where is my brother, is he hid well?
Then I see him, amidst zigzag stairs,
Breaking off into space, defying all!
Love or duty will save me from Hell,
But I must forsake all love’s snares,
And so reject the offered crystal ball.
I long to become the goddess equal,
Queen to the king, but I must decline.
For Mother wants her favorite back,
And I must return, a mad tale to tell.
She never loved me, oft did whine…
And fawn over my brother, so I lack,
Any feeling for him; but tolls the bell:
The clock is come full circle at last.
And now, I bring my brother home!
The king has no power in my heart…
A lie I tell him, for I love him madly.
I hate my brother; he is foul and fell,
Belonging to a part of my life past…
Was I sent here to, my hatred atone?
I solved the Labyrinth, did my part!
Yet I must forsake romance, sadly,
And so the king flies off into darks…
Beyond the fathoming: of all thought.
A white owl he becomes, and harks,
To distant climes, on wings brought.
Mother never believed even a word,
She called my tale insane, absurd…
My brother grew up, became a jerk.
But oft at night, magic I will work…
To open the portal to the Labyrinth,
And, with my king, I do make love!
For he is my lovely demonic prince,
I need no angel to return me above.

SYMPHONY SNAIL TRAIL
Out on the meadow
Tracing the green
Thin mist of slime
Shows snail trail
Slowest path
Of earthbound ways
Moist meander malice
Snailqueen in her chalice
An eye for an eye
Spider steals away
The remains of escargot
As arrives the night Fay
Looking for the holy grail
The Devil at my doormat
Labyrinth of sanity,may it prevail
The journey we are at
Out on the meadow
Tracing the green
Thin mist of slime
Shows snail trail
Slowest path
Of earthbound ways
Moist meander malice
Snailqueen in her chalice
An eye for an eye
Spider steals away
The remains of escargot
As arrives the night Fay
Looking for the holy grail
The Devil at my doormat
Labyrinth of sanity,may it prevail
The journey we are at

No sweat! I love that movie so much. That and The Dark Crystal were works of pure genius by Henson and the gang. Today it's all CG so you don't see that level of sheer creative madness in movies anymore. And David Bowie was soooooooooo sexy in Labyrinth too. He had a magic dance alright! Lol.

Hey, guys! I was just watching this on YouTube and it really took me back in time to when I saw this movie for the first time in the theaters. Here's David Bowie's fun "Magic Dance" sequence from Labyrinth:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xAAGh-3sw0
I always got a kick out of how he had to tell the Goblins to laugh or they'd just stand around looking stupid! *Giggle*
With today's CG and makeup, they'd ruin this by having all the goblins look like they did in Lord of the Rings *sigh* which is cool for LOTR but NOT for the fairytale world of Labyrinth. Which is why it's good they've never done a remake of this classic film. Besides... dancing Mines of Moria Goblins? Yikes!
