Poetry Contest Description
Culture, Traditions and Customs
• The world is full of regional culture, traditions and customs
• Be they historical events, superstitions, eccentric, religious, magnificent or mysterious
• The UK is no exception, many are calendar based customs occurring on the same day each year
• We have Guy Fawkes Night, Cheese Rolling, Toe Wrestling and Bog Snorkeling, Saints Days, The Tall Ships Race, The Highland Games, Wassailing and Fire Festivals to name but a few …… You will have your own examples and that’s what I hope for here
What of your preservations of traditions
What ever your country or heritage you are invited to write your own thoughts, observance and remembrance with due recognition of life and thought celebrated in ceremony of some kind

“Pumpkin Pie in the Sky”

When they whip out the “Big 10-Inch”,
get ready for some action,
they cock that baby back,
they want to shoot.
Of course, it’s all scientific-
mass, shape, and size is critical.
We pray we hit the right trajectory
and for good weather.
We use Caspers, Luminas, and La Estrellas,
they have the thickness to
withstand the grinding launch.
I can’t wait to see this year’s winner.
No, not the Melon King.
The next “Miss Punkin Chunkin” Queen!

Ghost Dancing -
Winyan marks carve this female
stone, birthing. She bears newborn
spirits stirring that plain within her.
And inside the nata, round voices
quake loose pale nooses, a gasping grip
upon dusty tattered skins.
Old blood rattles this thima tonight, a call
for time striking, when wanagi rise
from their earthy coil, shifting, and hissing the reeds.
Becoming a line of thunder loud, sweating out
hochokas of fleshy fear, a bowl of Lakota lightening
beholden in a beautiful brutish way.
Fingertips drum, and a humming
poetic bites the bloody heart in respect
for the hunt, for the wamakhashkan.
Leje always softens the hides, usefully.
Even when it is not yet known
that flowered phejuta can only leap from dirt.
Huta tales are told in fire. They are tribal taps
to the skull passed down, to spin around
to balance upon hanhepi cliffs
ready to dance.

Another “designer” holiday
slipped in to keep one astray
Someone had the nerve to anonymously send me some prose
Followed up by an anonymous rose!

maybe instead, feed some sparrows
The path they on dictates some false romantic trip
From the Pumpkin Patch to the Easter Bunny
In the middle a Black Friday zeroing in on last bits ‘o money
Consumer spending with
the credit cards & the banks upending
I see them works as offending, but
I absolutely ova-stand
That… St. Valentine’s heirs; their affairs
they continue to sleight o’ hand the lands
There's an oppression of all the lands
All the ones between the two easts & two wests
Trying to convince people their lie-style
That it’s the very, very best
Like trying to convince people…pink is the “new” black
Where in and in what part of hell? Tell us
where did you get that?
Once again moneygrubbers falsifying fact!
Always... flippin the script with
whimsical myth
Give ‘em 2O to 5O years...
some people will worship The Sith
Depicting the Prophets in cartoons stirring up enmity
Why the desire to increase more enemies
Masking their real fantasies
their “worship” of more & more monies
Like them cartoons…them movies
that… shit ain’t even funny
But I’m cool…and I’m calm...Because...of
what eye see..I can ova-stand
That this is something we gotta go through. Call it:
The Free Will of Man
And as we contemplate our next move; it’s already specified
We ask to be kept on The Truth while
always recalling who lied
To me that’s one of the best ways
to keep one’s ass from fried
but I’ll matador every time
you bring that bull

On second thought..
considering that Japanese men
would have to be the "patient"
in a bliss....

in a surgical sacrifice

may indeed be
Messianic.
......although one can certainly
picture our Japanese bredrin
GLOWING
