What are you thankful for?
Poetry Contest Description
Well it's almost Thanksgiving where I live and I wanted to know what you're all thankful for.
Guidelines and shit:
I don't care how many you post but please actually put effort
Don't bore me with a kagillion word poem
but don't make it a half assed one stanza type ordeal either.
Try not to be stereotypical (even though this competition is!)
No collabs.
Must be a new poem.
(I shouldn't even have to put this) Don't plaigerize because I'll check
oh, and don't fuck it up.

I am grateful for (having)my son whom I dedicate this poem to
OCTOBER CHILD
Ebony child
With heart
Of the woods
And the bottomless sea
Safe within me
Of day
Of dark
Of the soul
(whole)
"Here is a moonstone for you"
You say, with irises
of innocence
My earth child
Of the free
And the wild
Standing
On the threshold
I am beholding
This shimmering
Light
Of life
Two
Spills of milk
Breaks of glass
Screams of stubborn tantrums
Whines of pleading desires
Laughter so pure
Words so true
Eyes that pierce my heart
Skins that affirm my existence
Without them I am empty
Lives made up of me
Strapping young boys
I am thankful for two
Spills of milk

my dad
tought you make not make it here
i know that you are near
always on the road
but you are a trucker
on his way to tucker
you have told me never let anyone push you around
if they do throw them on the ground
you have changed now you say let God take care of them
you went from drugs and alcohol to the Lord is with me
and always rememeber that the Lord will always be
in your heart
and so will i
I hope to see you soon love you

I am thankful for my fucked up past
For all the relationships that didn't last
All the bruises, gashes, and tears
That I've bore over the years
I'm thankful for my ghost-like friends
Who were never there for me in the end
I'm thankful for my stolen innocence
I can still smell the burning incense
I'm thankful for my abusive mother
I wouldn't trade her for another
I'm thankful for my lack of love
And my emotions that come in a flood
I'm thankful for all these wretched things
Because I was guided by angel's wings
To overcome and conquer my pain
So that I'll never hurt anyone again
For all the relationships that didn't last

Labeling slavery as life to the fullest
Maxed out labour leading to scheduled rest
Border line imprisonment and xenophobia
Jump the barrier to become that criteria
Immortal greed playing snakes and favourites
Rolling their dice killing others while doing it
Pocket book scratches on an expendable mass
Herding the true minority into fear and class
Assimilating questions into terror and answers
Stock piling ammunition as the war horse cantors
Someone tell me what it means to be humane
The seperation between the out and in of sane
Concern for the dying and finishing a plate
Living contently in a nation fueled by hate

and I realize I'm hardly better off than last time,
My life is a total wreck,
Am I staying or going?
I'll sleep alone again tonight
Another attempt at unconciousness
Even though I'm falling apart,
I still see the beauty in life,
I'm grateful for the moments spent with you
Until the clocks would circle endlessly,
I'm thankful for the chances I've had and choices made,
I'm grateful for your smile
I am thankful for this life and each day to come.
