Skywatchers will be treated to yet another eye-catching celestial tableau as a lovely crescent moon slides past the brightest of all the planets: the dazzling Venus.
Venus continues to draw all eyes to the western sky after sunset. Venus is the first star-like object to appear at dusk and about 45 minutes after sunset it is indeed truly dazzling. The planet is currently shining at its greatest brilliancy, a magnitude of -4.5 on the scale used by astronomer to measure the brightness of sky objects.
Venus will remain just as bright for all practical purposes (within a tenth of a magnitude) right on through May 17. It only seems appropriate for a planet named for the goddess of love to be showiest in northern springtime, and brightest of all around the ancient fertility festival of Beltane (May Day).

Skywatchers worldwide are in for a charming cosmic display before the sun rises next week as three celestial bodies will appear in close conjunction.
The arrangement of Venus, Saturn and a slender crescent Moon may create a unique visual phenomenon resembling a smiling face in the sky, according to NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Brenda Culbertson.
The two planets will act as the "eyes" of the "smile," with the delicate crescent Moon forming the "mouth," Culbertson details. Venus will be the brighter of the two planets.
"I checked Stellarium software, and I went to different points on Earth, and it's a global thing," Culbertson noted. "So anyone on Earth should be able to see it if you are in a good position."

These last two months have been exhausting. In addition to running a business, NaPoWriMo, curating the DU anthology, and political activism, you can see why I am exhausted. All of the above, sans business, is donated in time and talent ( design et al ).
I apologize if I have missed poetry posts but do hope to catch up after NaPo.
That said, I am making the time to share this experience because it's amazing.
This past Friday a friend from the Northwest sent me some photos and two included a turkey exploring their property. That same night, a friend from the Northeast ( who does not know the friend from the Northwest ) asked me if I'd seen a turkey lately, or did I think I would be seeing a turkey anytime soon? I laughed because I had just seen two photographs of a turkey. She said she had a message for me:
Don't laugh, but if I'd seen a Turkey recently, an unexpected gift is heading your way that will totally surprise you. She said a few other things about blessings and rewards for hard work that were spot-on.
Saturday morning, I received a notification that that I had my first paid subscriber on substack! Saturday afternoon, I received a message from my grocery delivery service that since they delivered to my neighbor rather than my house, they refunded my bill! Saturday evening, I thought I would order in food because I was too exhausted to cook. Well, the delivery never arrived. Sunday, I receive a message from the company not only refunding my bill ( naturally ) but comping me free meals!
Who knew seeing a Turkey ( not around Thanksgiving ) would turn out to be "all that"?!

As our actions are inspired largely in part by our environment, it's easy to understand that those of others are based on the same principle. It's important to consider as many perspectives of a situation as possible before deciding the next step.
Working with rather than against others can further our own interests by heightening our social influence. People are more willing to listen to someone who understands them rather than a dismissive dissident.
