Which in particular do you enjoy? These are some poems that stayed with me.
"In This Waking" by Wanda Coleman (1946-2013; California, United States; poet, broadcaster, journalist, novelist, short-story writer, essayist) from Cornerstones: an Anthology of African American Literature
("he walks the blistered boulevards for hours hunting work / he goes in and out of restaurants when he comes home he smells of smoke and hot kitchens / she waits for the phone to sing/good news" [...])

"The Lizard Series" by Ntozake Shange (1948-2018; New Jersey and Maryland, United States; playwright, poet, novelist, screenwriter, children's-book writer, essayist, memoirist, historian) from Catch the Fire!!!: a Cross-Generational Anthology of Contemporary African-American Poetry
"a dogon iguana one eye openseeing me seeing my dreams creep like david rousseve's feet from my finely cut pecs"

I'm interested in the poetry of Sonia Sanchez; at the same time, my familiarity with cognitive-behavioral therapy has made me skeptical.
"To All Brothers" by Sonia Sanchez (b. 1934; Alabama, United States; poet, playwright, essayist, short-story writer, children's book writer, editor) from The Black Poets and A Broadside Treasury
("yeah. they hang you up those grey chicks parading their tight asses in front of you. [...]")
