Poetry Contest

What have you read on DUP that freakin' glorious!
Greetings, Fellow Poets!  It's time for our "Poem of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Poem of the Month Hall of Fame' and on the official facebook page for April 2018.

You have three weeks to nominate no more than two of you favorite poems from another DUP poet!

Please note the following when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. Please limit your nominations to TWO poems. You can nominate a single poem for two different poets; but the nomination maximum remains at TWO (no matter how many pseudonyms they have).  The majority of competitions on DUP cap nominations at one or two poems so there's no need to go beyond that.

No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

BIG CHANGE:

Previous Poem of the Month Hall of Fame members CAN BE NOMINATED ... but a poet may only win once in the time period from November 2017 - December 2018.

Simply put: We want to see a cross section of writers acknowledged.

Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me ( Poem-Worm ). I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.

Nomination Duration is three weeks followed by a week of site voting!

Running list of winners:

November 2017 ... NAAJIR
December 2017 ... POETSPEAK

explosions are for the ordinary

easy
for some
to crack and crumble
under strain
or
to explode
in anger

yet
some special humans
stand in front
of a running train
and make it crumble
with just their silence

it is another matter
altogether
the effect
on the passersby

be it awe
or
the concern
raw.

...I don't want these hands...

...oh...
no I don't

And I would hacksaw
gnaw
each nocuous
nightingale nail
from it's shoals
it's risque riverbed
it's fleshy fitted
fingerhead
to backtrack down
every shirtless back
they've dared - in dream
to roam
and comb their
shameful handfuls
'round

...no...
I don't want these eyes
my erring
staring
glaring pirate pair of iris
spyglass emeralds
unsettled in their
socket settings
roving rifles
of fiendish green

...you should know...
...you should know...
they should be blown
in whole
out the back of my skull
bloodstones from a blue whale blowhole

I don't want this heart
throwing thoughts of
men
like Campbell's cans
clattering into shopping carts

---

Vagrant vices
splice my volition
exponentially

pages pile up
miles of onion skin bible
paper
choky cellars stocked and locked
X's scored
on my bottomless
clipboard;
tabloid trespasses
dyed laceleaf red

Reverentially penned
leaflets laced with lechery
rustle - roughed-up moth wings
rouge with regret...
...and it's clear
that they'd burn
cleaner
than my newsprint conscience

Every Now And Then, She Patrols...

Every now and then
she snatches her desert out of her purse
she unfolds it in front of her
and takes a long walk
- she calls it her 'occasional patrol' -
whistling marching songs
driving off intruders.

With the job complete
and all the sand's dry kisses
hanging from her lips
she turns around and registers the traces of the route
carefully folding it back
burying it deep in the farthest corner of the bag.

Content she's back at square one
raises her glass
lights a cig
spits out smoke, phlegm and sand...

Confluence

plum blossoms pinkly beam in the dew

green branches meld to the hue of country sky

these things almost in themselves a sutra

a confluence of various means

in humility beneath the undimmed moon.

and primarily you are also

incarnate music incarnate wisdom

great realizations of

clear light and dark light

and unrealizations of the same.

A Shackled Birth

Feel free to explore
This bottomless well
Grip fast to the flagstone walls
letting us in
Shimmy down the sub-terra cavern
as the god's peering light
Dims faintly in these
forsaken tombs

The only sight , that there will to be
Are the stretched out limbs
Gripping the void so tightly
Like a archetype
Of your terror's guise
Beckoning the phantom flight
And the succubine
with her siren call
Greeting us to the river
Where her old blood flows

Through the ancient veins
Of earth's reality
Bringing shape and form
To what does not exist
But merely dwells
In the dark confines
Of rustic satellite data ,
Fallen to this specks great pull

From the graveyard shift
To those murder fields
We've written pasts
In their resting place
Just a drop of life
From a needle prick
Landing softly there
We watch the spirits feast
On this symbol of sympathy

Don't waver now
There's no turning back
We've reached the cusp
Of orders grip
This is where chaos reigns
With a static fist
Over mortal fear
And ageless death

NaPoWriMo

Each day brings a dozen new tales
with numerous words apiece
illuminated in individuality,
no two quite the same
as the lines pass by
in step to the days on a calendar.
Too numerous and diverse
to inspect in detail
with proper deference and respect
as impossible as briefly glancing
yet fully appreciating
all the art in a gallery
in only a solitary piece.
For we are painters
and words are our brush
to the page as our canvas
where ten words can portray a picture.
Whether they come from matters not,
originating in personal experience
or conjured by divine inspiration
or prompt provided,
they appear
and are present.
Beholden to something greater
than the sum of their parts and particles
not contained in contest
but found in the context
of universal harmony
and the collective creation
that underpins all human civilisation
regardless of race or creed
of colour or gender
or of knowledge
as it is the outpouring of words
that is the true merit and value
equal as a creative outlet of being.

My Lady Is Broken

I don't recall ever feeling this defeated
Heart, mind and soul depleted
Soaked by the tides of my desperation
Her love absent without explanation

The space between us no longer measured in distance
My heart fights back with endless persistence
This chill in the air survives a thousand fires
Suddenly a stranger to all her desires

If she would only show me the colour that began this decline
I would paint over it white, bright and divine
Silence that brings a deafening sound
My heart pumping fear with every pound

Love shows it's cruelty, refusing to hide
Every minute I stay I die more inside
All I can hear now are the words she can't say
Maybe this is a dream and i will wake one day

My lady is broken.

Bricks

They told me
To cast out
My pain
Like a stone
To the river
But
It is fused
Within these walls
Built strong
Enough
To withstand the storm
And
From it
I have broken ground
...
Without pain
How can one
Remain
...
The first bricks laid
Are primary
And
Paramount
To the structure
And
Mine will not be
Picked apart
To ease
Or appease
...
Pain
Is not solely
Where I stem from
Nor is it
All that I know
But
It is a pivotal stone
Laid in the formation
Of my make-shift home
...
So
Like a seed
I will nurture it
And
Tend to it accordingly
Careful not to spread
But instead
GROW
From the concrete
I have found myself upon
...
These scars
Will not be carved out
For there is beauty
On
And
Within the walls
To remove
Would be to erase
The blueprints
So
I will not dissect
To demolish
When all I want to do
Is build
And
Grow
...
I count bricks
As I lay them
One
By
One
From the strain of pain
I remain
And
Strong enough
I have become
