Judging hasn't been forgotten, just waiting on the final nod from another judge. Hang fire.

That’s Why They Call Me….

I noticed you were in a hurry,
and I pondered
your fortune for
being so….

I can walk
in the shadows, you know;
would you like to
see how?

Come touch my hand, and
you’ll….

you’ll see into the room
behind my eyes.

I go there often, to
view the ocean channels where
my submarine once sliced
through dark waters near
Normandy.

They bombed us too, when
we arose from the currents—
and I inhaled their mustard gas,
but only enough
to cause the crackle when
I breathe.

The others weren’t so lucky.

I can walk in the shadows—
I’ve been there ever since.

The Army still feeds me, but
not the one that enlisted me, and
my metal jacket has become skin.

(Run in your pretty clothes—
pretend you don’t see, believe
the worst.
Hurry by,
hurry by
before he snatches your children, for
it’s really the missing ones, scratching
to get out –
rattle-breath, he eats them,
you know…..)

and the cancer keeps growing,
I spit
it out
in chunks; you
can call me “Aqualung,”
bum on the park bench,

just like the rest of them.

(Inspired by Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCMS-NJ7VxU  )

Lunch Break

I noticed you were in a hurry
By the way you ate your lunch
Coleslaw, cheese and crackers
Red and green grapes in a bunch

It only took five minutes
For you to eat your lunch
Sat next to me on this here bench
I listened to your crunch

It’s not that I am nosey
I can see your diet is frugal
Lunch should be more substantial
They have recipes on Google

It is clear to see you reasons
You’re slim and watch your figure
You worry about your ass size
You don’t want it getting bigger

So beautiful to look at
Such a sexy wink and smile
Without really knowing it
You have the power to beguile

You have absolutely no idea
How you fed my erection
After all, you sat next to me
Not my normal, random selection

I fantasised about you
In that torture place
Scalpels and power tools
Cutting off your pretty face

You really haven’t a clue
Just how close you came
As I re-sheathed my blade
Your lucky day, I proclaim

Victims sure come easy
In this my favourite park
May we never meet again
Especially after it gets dark

Pink Pigtails

I noticed you were in a hurry
your bright hair bouncing
along side your down turned face
calling for the attention
you so obviously need

Thin frame shrouded
like mirrors at a funeral
covering the pain of seeing
the light from reflecting
off the scars of your
latest autopsy

I recognize you
little necromancer
defying death
crying for a semblance of life
before the rot spreads
and necessary pieces of you
fall away

I watch you approach
consider stopping you
or fighting my own decaying body
to stand and walk with you
talk with you

You look up from your baby doll shoes
our eyes meet in a heart stopping moment
of recognition
until you stumble in your rush
to put me behind you

I hold my tongue
as you squint over your shoulder at me
yes, take a good look boy
let my presence alone tell you
all I'm now too breathless to say

You will survive
it is not death you seek
merely
reincarnation

May she be
all that you imagine
