Willow Tree

A willow guards this babbling brook
Shading me whilst I lower my hook
Seeking fish that I may cook
Trying new recipes
from my book

This willow stands here
at pond's edge
It's cutback bank hides a soft dirt ledge

'Neath hanging branches fish seek shelter
While squirrels run cross them
helter skelter

And when cool spring turns to swelter
It's here I kiss my sweetheart
lest summer melt her
