Longing.

Gravitating towards the sun
is how the grandeur sunflower lives
and when forced to dwell in the shade, it quivers
for it is away from its sunshine- what most matters.

Aching for you like the sun misses the moon,
reaching to find your hand is all I want to do.
Please keep hold of me, my love
as shooting stars fall from the sky above.

I have lips that miss your name
as much as I have eyes that long for your face
and we both have proved we can make it through
but between my fingers still exists cold space.

Staring at your picture just a moment too long,
wearing your jacket no matter the weather
are only a few of the silly things I do
to remind myself that I still have you.

So as the sunflower does now, I stretch
past the now that casts me in dark shadows
into the light of day, a gift from the sun
that reminds me of the love story since spun.

So much space, so much sky in between
as I look above to the blanket of stars and see-
strain to look beyond this distance between
and counting the seconds, minutes, hours, until...

And though it may sound so silly to a stranger's ears,
I miss my head resting against your bare chest-
that's the only place I'm able to hear such a sweet, low sound
a kindred heartbeat to ease me into peaceful rest.

You are the sun to my sunflower and the same light
you produce reflects into the nightsky onto my lonely moon.
Its you who I see when I close my eyes,
and its in your arms where my heart lies.

Of that day's coming where I might hold you once more, I wonder when
so until then I'll say that I miss you over and over again...
You make me feel love I never thought possible,
