This Is A Sad Poem
The first time I tried to kill myself I had dumped half of the contents of a Mr.Bubbles bottle into the tub, making an iridescent and bubble gum scented grave for myself.
I dunked my head underwater for the next hour or so and continuously tried to drown to no avail.
I couldn’t get past the annoying survival instinct to come up for air when I started to panic.
I tell my therapist this as though I was telling her about dressing my dolls or playing a game with my cousins. She furrows her brow and frowns the way people do when they don’t get my dead parent jokes. I...

The Poison Bride
When the famous poetess passed out in her mashed potatoes on Christmas Eve, 1978, her husband rolled his eyes and her two children carried on glumly chewing. It was a semi-regular performance, the passing out act. George wondered how he'd ended up marrying the silly bitch.
Once on a literary tour, they'd been besieged by girls who seemed to regard him with envy for having such unfettered access to their mentally unstable idol. He'd happily switch places with any of them, or the middle-aged sad-sack men who worried at her ankles at luncheons. Two years ago, she'd had a brief...

Bullied Girl
They knock her glasses...
off her face and step on them!
Crunch! Broken!
They trip her and kick...
her books down the hall!
Fatty tripped on her two left feet!
They push her into a bathroom stall...
and take her skirt and panties.
Snap! Photo!
She screams and cries...
until the nurse gets her pants to wear!
She hates this school!
They mock the pants...
It's a boy! Ugly enough.
"Ugly. Ugly." They chant.

Back to Michigan
They say you can't go back...
cause it won't be the same...
be it a job, relationship or a hometown -
unless you return in a box...like my daddy.
The body of my father...a very big man
of 500 lbs...was transported by train...
across the state of Michigan from large city
back to his small town birthplace.
I don't know if the town had changed
in the years Dad had been gone...
as I had never been there before...
he had moved to a bigger city after Vietnam.

Lady Fancy R.I.P. ( A tribute )
I knew Lori as well anyone knows someone whom they've never met but knew so well..
She was on DUP at the same time I was but we never crossed paths until we did.
Ironically we worked at the same company in the city but did not know each other then.
Had we known each other then we surely would have had drinks downstairs in the bar where everyone went on Friday nights...
That brings us to DUP.
I think she commented on one of my poems and I back and then another and that went on for awhile. Till one day I posted a painting with one of my poems and then it was...

Rest Softly, Lori
In the rain of your eyes,
Ocean spray bursts up towards heaven
falling back with tears as leaves of a tree.
Love flew out of your mouth in hieroglyphics
like an invitation to a sky wedding
writ on the wrists of kites.
Dawn ghosted,
as a ship’s prow through windows
tangled in curtain rigging
in the way silence enters an empty room
sunrise gallows hang
heavy in your absence.
Tightrope of lips
taut between our secret space
and pavement cracks where rain survives.
Hands prayed...

Grief
I almost forgot that you were gone until I woke up and realized that I was now grown.
Your face, smile, all of your features were there.
I would’ve bet my life on that.
And there I was nothin but a child again racing to give you the biggest hug that I could make.
I would have never imagined that I would be sitting here dumbfounded.
Lead not to our own understanding, those are the words those men wrote in the Bible as they went about their day, reciting potential scriptures that they wanted to include in the Bible.
God doesn’t make any mistakes are the words...

In the Shadow of Stars
When I looked up at the endless night,
Stars twinkled like secrets whispered low,
I asked the heavens, “Where’s the light?
If God is real, where did you go?”
In my heart a storm was brewing,
A tempest of love turned bitter and wild,
For in those dark moments I felt so alone,
With blood on my hands and a heart defiled.
You were my anchor; you were my grace,
But addiction wrapped you in chains of despair,
Each promise made now lost in the space—
Where laughter once danced hangs silence and air. ...
