Far Away, I Am Free
A young girls fantasy
becomes
A grown woman’s sadness
How warped fate can be
To twist and knot a dream
Euphoric beginnings eroded
Daily, the grind of merely existing
I long to run
Yet, maps are obsolete and
Siri didn’t understand my request
Fancy language and scripted fonts
Do little to assuage this emptiness
Bards of yesteryear are mute
To the very thing I need to hear
I don’t know where to go?

I went out today
because staying home
would have meant
getting back into bed
and wasting my day
with mind numbing distractions
and I desperately needed
to make my body move
beyond the act of breathing
Between pain and depression
some days feel like hibernation
and last time I checked
it's not winter
and I'm not a bear
I walked for an hour and a half
hit my pain limit
and had to get an Uber home
because trying to navigate
the bus system
with an invisible disability ...
because staying home
would have meant

and wasting my day
with mind numbing distractions

I used to be so full of "fuck you"
My heart was passionate,
My mind opinionated.
Boy, you couldn't tell me shit!
The years have gone by,
And I've grown older.
Days turned to decades
Of shutting up and backing down,
Playing by everyone else's rules
Just to get by.
Nights I've spent screaming and blubbering
Into blackness
The only time my voice truly finds me
Crawling back on hands and knees

Persona of Clay
Bent and shrunken, this persona of clay I live with,
moulded by the hands of someone else’s words,
slowly erasing the contours of my every lineament.
Flawed and broken, this reflection of porcelain I wake up to,
a product born of another’s seed,
losing shape to their kneading hands.
I am nothing more than mere pottery,
beaten and rolled,
hammered and crafted,
stamped and fabricated,
to be of them.

Rise Up
Burn me, drown me, take me down
A Flaming Phoenix, I’ve been around
Uproot, transplant, a new me is found
Cut me, crush me, I rise from the ground
Mistake not this fire for a coal black soul
These colorful flames are brilliant & whole
My talons and wings, don’t think to control!
If passion is sin, I go to Sheol
He’d shackle me back with those chains I wore?
I won’t scream, bite or claw, but spread wings & soar
I tried to love his cold ash before
That grit in my mouth I’ll suffer no more
Moved twenty times...
