Around the World
Funny how this life has unfurled
having traveled around the world
only to come right back to see
the very same me
The one who chases every breeze
shows off these skinned knees
knowing how life is meant to live
how love is meant to give
Tossing a coin in every fountain
climbing every looming mountain
that dares to stand in my way
to prevent me from having my say
Fully aware of all I lack
I let no one hold me back
from taking that unmade trail
trimming this dauntless sail
Longing until it is...
having traveled around the world
only to come right back to see
the very same me
The one who chases every breeze
shows off these skinned knees
knowing how life is meant to live
how love is meant to give
Tossing a coin in every fountain
climbing every looming mountain
that dares to stand in my way
to prevent me from having my say
Fully aware of all I lack
I let no one hold me back
from taking that unmade trail
trimming this dauntless sail
Longing until it is...

Safari Breeze
I love the late afternoon breeze
as it whispers through acacia trees
telling ancient tales of old
about both beast and warrior bold
While my rover makes its start
still now searching for the heart
of every single mystery
I now see here in front of me
With creatures great and small
willing to freely share it all
this wisdom they have gleaned
from flowing rivers that have sheened
Words to a poetry from long ago
from before the last ice age snow
when man and earth were one
beneath the bold...
as it whispers through acacia trees
telling ancient tales of old
about both beast and warrior bold
While my rover makes its start
still now searching for the heart
of every single mystery
I now see here in front of me
With creatures great and small
willing to freely share it all
this wisdom they have gleaned
from flowing rivers that have sheened
Words to a poetry from long ago
from before the last ice age snow
when man and earth were one

Black Rhino
I watch as he approaches the road
carrying his wide body load
across these vast grasslands
bears the weight of one who understands
How the African sun will arc the sky
rarely sharing the reasons why
his life requires its breath
his life requires his death
Eating the sharp blades of grass
as he watches the ages pass
from carved stone to steel
from barefoot wanderers to the wheel
While I just take in the sight
of day passing again into night
tallying up all of these long miles
to gather up both tears...
carrying his wide body load
across these vast grasslands
bears the weight of one who understands
How the African sun will arc the sky
rarely sharing the reasons why
his life requires its breath
his life requires his death
Eating the sharp blades of grass

Hyena
Death always wears a smile
as if meant to beguile
lure in unsuspecting prey
in this lost twilight of the day
With a cold chilling laugh
it pursues a baby or a calf
dressed in brown and black
to camouflage the attack
Before disappearing in the brush
with the most faintest of a hush
as if meant to beguile
lure in unsuspecting prey
in this lost twilight of the day
With a cold chilling laugh
it pursues a baby or a calf
dressed in brown and black
to camouflage the attack
Before disappearing in the brush
with the most faintest of a hush

Savannah Bluffs
These rolling hills tumble on
well past the first of dawn
as these winds now blow
revealing all they have to show
About the way life is meant to be
across this savannah forever free
while I seek the elephant herds
chasing more than just these words
Knowing there is such little time
left here in the realm of rhyme
where each and every line
conforms to a natural design
As the sun again begins to set
allowing me to now forget
take off these city shoes ...
well past the first of dawn
as these winds now blow
revealing all they have to show
About the way life is meant to be
across this savannah forever free
while I seek the elephant herds
chasing more than just these words
Knowing there is such little time
left here in the realm of rhyme

As the sun again begins to set

Lewa Wilderness
The conservancy sprawls ever vast
so you can easily lose your past
amongst the plains and bluff
yet finding far more than enough
To fill up this empty life
a true savannah still rife
with everything I could need
to do more than just succeed
Being deeply immersed in it all
hearing each and every wild call
an invitation to the dance
this much needed second chance
While I now seek a better way
finally say all I could not say
dare not say it out loud ...
so you can easily lose your past
amongst the plains and bluff
yet finding far more than enough
To fill up this empty life
a true savannah still rife
with everything I could need
to do more than just succeed
Being deeply immersed in it all
hearing each and every wild call
an invitation to the dance

While I now seek a better way

dare not say it out loud ...

Leaving Home
This cool misty morning air
makes me evermore aware
that today is the day
I must set out on my way
As I cross grassy Lewa plains
recall all those gentle rains
that soothed me so…
their clear christening flow
When rainbowed elephant herd
shared with me their sacred word
meant to balm this wounded life
of both joy and strife
How King Simba with his roar
always showed me much more
than my eyes could ever see
about all the doubt within me
Yet I must once again leave ...
makes me evermore aware
that today is the day
I must set out on my way
As I cross grassy Lewa plains
recall all those gentle rains
that soothed me so…
their clear christening flow
When rainbowed elephant herd
shared with me their sacred word
meant to balm this wounded life
of both joy and strife
How King Simba with his roar

than my eyes could ever see
about all the doubt within me
Yet I must once again leave ...

Dark Continent
I came such a long way
just to be able to say
I finally lost myself
left the old me on the shelf
On this lifelong journey to find
that ever lasting piece of mind
leaving the loud meddling crowd
penetrate this opaque shroud
Feeling feelings forgotten
as light and crisp as cotton
shining ever so bright
they light up a starless night
Every single true truth
buried alive since my youth
now has its chance to shine
pearled upon a poetic line
For this is the power of this place ...
just to be able to say
I finally lost myself
left the old me on the shelf
On this lifelong journey to find

leaving the loud meddling crowd

Polaroid Poet
I live life one snapshot at a time
one poetic line at a rhyme
break from the lumbering herd
always in search of the right word
Waiting to then finally develop
these feelings that do envelope
me with all of their truth
still ever true since my youth
As I collect scars and smiles
all across these many miles
keep them so I may look
again at my poetry scrapbook
While I lay my days on the floor
knowing there is hidden much more
in striving for needing less
than mere prose can confess
...

All I Left Behind
Having traveled through the night
finally ending this latest roam
on my final leg home…
yet still itching for one more write
For this is the life I chose
trekking around the world
never one for staying with the herd
preferring my poetry to their prose
Crossing wide rugged plains
in search of what I cannot see
the key to unlock the mystery of me
christened anew by savannah rains
Since that big city life
always takes its toll
most corrosive to my soul ...

The Road Again Calls
As I sit within these four walls
the road again calls...
with its sweet sibilant sound
coming in from all around
Voices from far away
surround me with all they say
all that they now reveal
about a real world that is still real
With golden savannahs ever vast
returning now to a past
that I never truly knew
although I know it remains true
Where African winds do blow
sharing in the timeless flow
of this steady stream of ink
reminding me of our link
For this is where life once...
the road again calls...

coming in from all around

With golden savannahs ever vast

African Sky
It is impossible to ever deny
this star filled African sky
all these constellations I will see
guide me on this path to find me
A little further every single day
I do finally make my way
across these wide Kenyan plains
cleansed clean by equatorial rains
As I count the fleet gazelle
listen to each story that they tell
about the circle they all trace
about the sacredness of space
How it folds together with time
making a clean page for my rhyme
shares a big of itself
a wisdom unfound...
