Remix

When I grew up I wanted to be you
Not a carbon copy of who I was, but you
I took the A train past 14th because I couldn't C what was right in front of me
Everything and every option, each expecting me to stop, exit and transfer to the me I was supposed to be
See it's as simple as 123 or 456 but signals get crossed on early morning delays
So I sleep in, rise later, work less and visit with you every now and again
Once upon a time we were supposed to be, but ambitions and dreams fall prey to bi-weekly pay checks
Security instead of freedom, tinted windows in a drive by life i don’t recognize
Broken bottles covering firescapes to futures we forget
Dark alley ways once holding promise; shadows of fear
Records we remember, tracks we skipped
Turntables reminding us that you are a playlist of infinite order
Spinning until sound silences critics
A needle in the haystack, finding the future we forgot
Producing what’s to come

Do You
