The Stupid Fairy

In a tree so high and bright
Sat three chicks this warm night
Dreams of flight they each had shared
In the Evening's warmth and care.

Mornings came and mornings went
Their thoughts and dreams less content
With each Day's hours spent
Not knowing what practice meant.

Wished and wished and dreamed until
A fairy arrived and said, "I feel...
As if you may or as if you might
Be ready to take your first real flight."

"Come to the edge and try this time.
I'll be here and you'll be fine,
You're only lacking one small thing
and that's belief; You can fly if your heart can sing!"

So our chicks raised their wings
And in their hearts they began to sing.
Our bravest chick jumped with glee
And fell and died instantly.

The second oldest drew a breath,
Spread her wings and met her death.
Youngest still, but not so dumb
The third chick spoke, "We're not all stupid, only some."

And shoved the fairy from her niche
Watched her drop and said,
"Take that, bitch"
