Realizing This
I lie back on the sofa
and open up my life to you.
My legs fall away.
My defenses drop to the floor.
My arms recede into my lungs
and every extension of my being
becomes a wisp of smoke.
I become a mouthful.
My hair a handful.
My eyes a blink.
Everything I am
fits into your mouth,
and the words you speak
are the solemn vows
of your yearning.
This is how I feel
you know me
when I see your face
looking up at me.
Your hands cup
my soul,
and your tears
wash my breathing
into a shallow spring.
This is how
I see you
seeing me
when I am aware
and everything
becomes unbroken
when we kiss.
