For David - On His Birthday

You make promises
Alot of them-
All my desires fulfilled
All my fantasies made real-
....but....
I've learned from the past
That promises are fragile-
That the road to hell is paved
Not with good intentions but promise shards-
....so....
Though you say you are fair
And your eyes are as green as the sea
That your smile is warm-
I still cannot trust you.
....because....
There was another once
Another who was fair-
Another who was warm
With eyes as blue as wedgewood-
....promised....
To love forever
To never deceive
To be kind and to cherish
To share the journey-
....he....
Made promises
Alot of them-
All my desires fulfilled
All my fantasies made real-
....can you....
Drive the shadows from my soul
with the gentle light in your eyes?
Hold the wounded sparrow of my heart
Safe in your hands until it is ready to fly again?
....he did....
But he is not here.
Eight months together then he was gone-
I know that he did not leave but was taken
But I am just as alone-
....so....
Today was his birthday
Needed to hear a voice-
Two dollars a minute - cheap for therapy
Thanks for listening-
....good-bye....

A quick note- this was a hard write guys- almost decided not to post it- but if poetry is true emotion on a page- didn't see as I couldn't- after all the only difference is that this pain is mine-and I have no patent on that product. No public comments for this one though- if you feel the need- private message me- thanks.
