MERMAID SONG
(inspired by a dear friend)
I decided to prove you wrong...
To hear the mermaid song
You must go to the shore
And search the smooth ocean floor
Left bare by the outgoing tide
To find their beautiful glassy scales
Amongst the carpet of stone.
You can find them glistening in the sun
All smooth and salt bitten.
The mermaids can sense
You searching for their gifts
Strewn along the sandy beach
Some they tossed so purposefully
For you to find, some
are just out of reach.
Others are hidden in
Seaweed and stone
To prolong your search for more.
Each one so unique and precious,
So worn and lovely to touch.
The mermaids want to keep you here,
Amongst there green salty breath.
To watch you searching so carefully,
For the beauty they left behind.
As each wave caresses
Moving away from the shore
If you listen very carefully
You can hear their sing song whispering,
"Don't Leave, don't leave,
There's more."
