The Memory Tree

 Treasured trinkets removed with care
Made by small hands that hold our heart
Each one a prized and priceless jewel
A beloved work of art

Bright ornaments of red and gold
Shiny garland and strings of lights
Memories gently packed away
‘Til next years’ Christmas Eve night

Now in our house forlornly stands
A once so proud majestic fir
Stripped bare of all her finery
Reverently we undress her

Her needles once so soft and supple
Brittle now they prick our fingers
Oh tree of lights, though sadly fading
Your stunning beauty lingers
