tonight
walking through thick mist
another day, another memory.
walking into my room, with
heavy boots and a big jacket
feeling their weight burden me down.
memories leaving me feeling under the weather.
the skies of my soul filled with dark clouds
that threaten to flood the house i made a home.
I'm gonna close the windows
shut the door, lock and bolt.
keep the cold out
i'm gonna strip off all these layers
and with each item
i promise to miss you less
i promise to think of you less
i promise to love me a little more
than i ever loved you.
i promise to move on.
to spend the last night under white sheets
with childlike nakedness
and damp pillow cases.
I'm gonna clear my basement.
put up new portraits without Mona Lisa smiles.
