Swear it
I promise
that the only type of jewelery
I will ever want from you
is a pearl necklace,
if you promise
that I will get to wear it often.
Diamonds are chilling,
having none of the slinking warmth
of my favored accessory,
and while they sparkle,
they really result
to hardened coal in the end.
I promise
that I will be happily
and ceaselessly devout,
if you promise
that I will get to worship at the altar
whenever I please.
Churches are fine
for kneeling,
but the dress code
leaves much to be desired,
and the entertainment
is rather lackluster.
And finally I promise
that my thirst will be insatiable,
if you promise
that you will try diligently
and frequently
to quench it regardless.
Wine is nothing more
than rotten, sour grapes
and I have always
had a preference
for salty treats instead.
