We grew closer only to fall apart

Something was always missing
a piece never quite fit
im finding myself lost in words
that mean everything and nothing at all

i want to be held by you
feel how everything fits perfectly
just lay there and smile,
laugh,
care

somehow when you left
something broke inside
it wasnt my cold little heart
but something bigger,
something that meant more

fixing it with the touch of others
knowing it wont last
this way i wont hurt again
pain is in the past

you brought me something no one else could
happiness
complete and utter happiness
and then just as fast as it started
it had all ended

isnt that how the story always goes?
im just now seeing the irony
no matter how hard we try
love is not, nor was ever real

i only hope to be proven wrong
for love would be something beautiful
if, of course, it wasnt ficticious
until then i wont expect anything
never really being let down
