The Horseman

Headless the horseman tapping on shoulders

Deep in the alleyways where conflict walks

Shadows lurking, lunging forwards to catch the unwary

Eyes roaming each nook and cranny

Searching for the flicker of movement

The flash of steels glint in the murky blackness

Every sound injecting extra heartbeats

Breathing quickening in dreadful anticipation

All the time hidden eyes watching for a fallen defence

A clouded moment of indecision

The horseman’s sickle of death reaches out touching one

Blinding the muzzles flash injects death

One instant life becomes shrouded in the black

The horseman carries away the soul as his prize

The parched desert floor greets a blood feast

Soaking away every drop that is spilled upon its parched throat

Another coffin carrying another warrior home leaves

Anguish flies too
