Our Engraved Masks
We are the sum of a thousand evils, A million failures, And a lifetime of unholy acts
How can you expect us to speak the truth, Succeed daily, And act with such purity?
We are made from broken vows, Broken bottles, And burnt bibles
How can you expect us to innocently fly to your hypocritical safe haven?
We are the new generation; We are the bleeding, The broken, And the untamed
We will shout truth to your heavens, Till the lies rain down upon our conscious walls
We are the architects and magicians; We are the slaves, The chained, And the trapped
We will replace your bloody veil with an engraved mask; Till you recognize us all
We helplessly carry your filthy secrets, Unexplainable guilt, And unfathomable burdens
How can you expect us to be model citizens, Become unsullied, And possess a weightless spirit?
We are held together by your lovely words, Beautiful embraces, And reassuring presence
How can you expect us to know the contrasts in your actions are soaked in good intentions?
We are the chosen; We are the hopeful, The believing, And the wild hearts
We gladly rise above the clouds into the sun, Till our hearts are finally thawed
We are the saviors and healers; We are the beaten, The shunned, And the scapegoats
We will cure the disease plaguing your heart, Till the last breath you breathe is thankful
How can you expect us to speak the truth, Succeed daily, And act with such purity?
We are made from broken vows, Broken bottles, And burnt bibles
How can you expect us to innocently fly to your hypocritical safe haven?
