Of All the Pain....Which Is the Worse?

Would I be wasting my time
if I were to ponder these thoughts?
the pain of my hand as it writes
the pain these emotions have brought

the pain of losing what I hold dear
the pain of the blow across the face
the pain that comes before the fear
the squeezing of my heart as it begins to race

which is the most painful?
the mark of a welt,
the stinging remarks of the hateful,
or the memories of happiness that once dwelt?

Is crying over someone's shoulder
more painful than being alone?
is it the heart that becomes colder
the more we have grown?

Of all the pain
which is the worst?
what do we possibly gain
after the good have been cursed?

I have stood outside in the rain
tears mixing with the heavenly droplets
mourning the sudden onslought of pain
the stinging embarrassment and regret

is the lack of justice more painful?
is it the loss of a lover?
is it the loss of what was once meaningful?
is it the happiness that once used to hover?
