just before you sleep

the bitter poison
sung of a lullaby
rose petals scattered
discard all fragrance of death
a perfume to persuade the mind
that all is well
the sweet kiss that awakens
from all thoughts of murder and gore
silence of clouds rolling by
only to be interuppted by the clash
of thunder and lightning streaking the sky
pain, as another scar is set in place
to form on her perfect porcelain skin
the sorrowful tears that dry on one's cheek
as the eulogy is complete
so lay down to sleep my little one
close your eyes and dream
dream of a happy tomorrow
for in the night your fears will vanish
truth becomes reality
rest your head down on your pillow
you are safe . . . for now
as the echoes of my footsteps
ring louder in your ears
remember you are safe
and just as you close your little eyes
I vanish, only a mere memory
a ghost of a forgotten mother
you sleep and live
whilst I linger between this world and the next
