Pressure

Have you heard of the diamond,
That lies beneath the earth?
Have you learned the lesson,
That she offers with her worth?

We see it every day,
In the jewelry that we wear,
But have you ever thought,
Of the pain that put her there?

The beauty of the product,
So often masks the trial,
The many weights loaded,
That grows within each mile

For thousands of centuries
The fires will burn,
Aided by pressure,
Till a beauty she’ll turn

Pressed to great measures,
Yes, pressed to great lengths,
Burned in the heat,
Left without any strength

Pressed to tears,
Pressed till she bends
Pressure on pressure,
Till life nearly ends

Although she is blinded,
To the beauty she’ll be,
This is a fire that refines,
Pressure that sets free

Worry not, dear Diamond,
There is a purpose at hand,
The tribulation will lessen
And you’ll be revealed to the land

It has a great purpose,
Oh, yes, these feeling of pain,
It powers the soul to endure,
Makes stronger by the strain

So take comfort here,
And the pressure embrace,
So that you may shine light
From your faceted face

Let the rays shine through,
All prisms of light,
Show the world, that pressure and fire,
Made such a beautiful sight
