Defiant Gaze

He looked at it softly, pioneering a warm smile
Radiant benevolence over this first born child
Father of many things, but never a homo sapien
Pivotal moment, it would never be the same again
Afterward, he fostered many of the same species
Still too young to generate ideas and claim theses
In many places he helped his children grow and flourish
Slowly nourished, taught each one to be wholly earnest
They loved him! Together they co-existed peacefully
Each individual had a place and fit in equally
Those were early days, before his kids changed for the worse
Strangest of curse, he should have seen they were tainted at birth
As they matured, the children's actions hurt the father
At first they didn't know, but they learned, and still went farther
They realized his ancient wisdom and demanded answers
In untouched places he hid to evade his captors
Until eventually they completely surrounded him
He never let on but it discretely astounded him
They forced him atop the bland, ugly temple of science
Prodded for ages, but learned little from his gentle compliance
He looked at them confusedly, unsure the purpose
Most wanted dominance, few  were pure and worshipped
His mysteries deeper than their infantile comprehension
Yet never did he look down with rage or condescension
In an effort to learn and control they broke his spine
Such ignorance and cruelty to a figure so benign
They forced him into unnatural shapes, odd and twisted
His eyes were different now too, down-trod but limpid
The injuries caused wondrous convulsing tremors
They also created feverous hot spots like bulging embers
Lashing about brought many of his children to harm
Desperate; struggling to restrain him with building alarm
They had learned so few of his secrets and father was ill
He would die, the atmosphere became somber and chill
Then the children turned on each other! Blame and anger
Those other fool's mistakes are how we came to danger
The Men brought forth weapons to end all in a violent rage
Immaturity had peaked at this vibrant stage
He sat sadly, the wisest sage in a silent cage
He was Earth's spirit, disappointed, championing a defiant gaze
And finally spoke "All of you; the despicable, will die
My family; billions, yet none hospitable as I
I raised you, allowed space for your global evolution
And you have repaid me with total destitution
Disrespect and ignorance I cannot try to measure
As I close my eyes and rest, we both die together"
