Losing Faith

A a little girl, she twirled in sunlight with tiny feet dancing across the earth in celebration of her being. She smiled and laughed easily as innocent eyes absorbed in the world as a gift.

As the seasons passed, she found strength in the faith of her family and the ancient rhythms of religious practice. With hands folded in prayer and reflection, she learned of sacred threads that connected her to the past, to the divine, and to the souls of those she met.

When love first brushed against her cheek, new desires arose. She felt the longings to join with another human in ways opposed by the teachings that shaped her. And so, her first love, tender and true, gave new purpose for her birth. She and her lover found new modes of joyful play and the reverent worship of another in ways once mysterious.

Now she kneels with folded her hands cupping the desire that extends from her lover. He looks down to see the same hands that prayed as a child now giving him pleasure. Bound with another as one flesh, she feels the pulse of the same earth on which she danced as a child. Now all creation shimmers with warmth as the two are joined to create new life.

Author's Note
My good friend introduced me to her lover and left me thinking about the path she's traveled from a childhood faith to an adult form of love and earthly passion. Here's a link to a poem I wrote about an early lover in her life: https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/poems/487014-my-friends-orgasm/
