A Reading for My Friend's Abortion

Leader: To the unborn child, we acknowledge the complexity of life's choices.
Congregation: May the soil be forgiving where we step, and the winds carry away the sorrow of our hearts.

Leader: In the solitude of decision, we wrestle with the weight of existence. We honor the potential of life, especially of the unborn.
Congregation: For the life within her, pure and innocent, born of lust, we offer our deepest apologies.

Leader: May we find strength in our shared humanity, recognizing the gravity of our decisions.
Congregation: And beseech the Universe to understand our choices.

Leader: In this moment of remembrance, we stand together, recognizing the full spectrum of human experience.
Congregation: With compassion and empathy, we support this sister on her journey.

Leader: Let us move forward with respect for the past and hope for the future.
Congregation: May we find peace in the knowledge that our choices are made with thoughtful consideration and care for all involved.

Leader: Together, we honor the memory of what might have been and the reality of what is.
Congregation: May we all be guided by love, wisdom, and the courage to face life with an open heart.

Author's Note
I wanted to support my friend who recently aborted an unwanted pregnancy with a responsive reading that might not fit into most worship situations. My own experience influenced how I wrote this.
