Invisible Love
I can sit and watch the laughter crease your face without intruding in your world
I can dry your tears as well as your friends, you just don’t know it
My shoulder is always ready if you need someone to lean on, I can carry you
My mental camera captures all, treasured in the album of my mind
Your face is all I see in my dreams
Yet your eyes flicker past me
I monitor your breath, your heart
Better than any life-support machine
But my tender efforts are wasted on you
I will hold out; I know you’ll find me eventually
There, she’s broken your heart again
I did warn you, I did say she was trouble
I can’t help it if you don’t hear me
Your cologne is always wonderful
I drink in as much as I can
Every time you waft past me
I’m so glad you found your surprise Valentine
I can assure you, it was much better than hers
There’s only one thing I’m struggling with
Shall I tell you?
You see, love, you only ever had eyes for others.
I know I’m not anything special
But you never returned my ‘Hello’s
And threw away my poetry in scorn
That hurt
You see, love, I put my heart into every single inky line
I bled my love for you into the pen
And all you could do was laugh
Thank goodness I was smart enough to leave no name
Every nice surprise you ever had was always attributed to someone else
Everything
That hurt, too.
But I’m willing to forgive you
I know! I’m too forgiving, and it will be the death of me
But you are someone special
Just answer me something, love
And we can be together
Get married, have children, be in love like we're supposed to be
Take your eyes off the knife in my hand, and answer me this:
Do you see me now?
I can dry your tears as well as your friends, you just don’t know it
My shoulder is always ready if you need someone to lean on, I can carry you
