Love Is An Illusion

Cloak runs clear
As I’m ravished in pretend.
An unwilling jerk
It forces me in a mirage.
Pastel cotton candy skies
A lake coated in a green hue
Glisten against one another.
A stench of pollen
So overwhelming it curls my nose hairs.
Everything is perfect.
As I brought the jar to my lips
I gasp for a sip
And the bitter taste clogs my tonsils.
Ultimately, it was the taste
The bitter coat of gin
That ushered me awake.

It’s the captivating effect of love.
Or alcohol.
