Solitude lies beyond troubled waters
Drenched in moonlight that soothingly blends
Such place where imagination alters
Working the canvas against gentle winds
Transformative is the power of Art
Red as roses unto romance of lovers
Blue as the feelings of a broken heart
Working the canvas against soft colors
Serenity…melody within me
Introspection I find within each song
Life in harmony setting my soul free

And a perfect melody that defines all gravity embedded into such words of truth, enwrapping the mentality of the soul into wisps of hope, aspirations, shrouded in peace and serenity.

“The canvas can do miracles” is the premise for most of my stanzas. This lyric is so very touching and clever to me; as it can be interpreted in two ways…literally and artistically. Sails are made of canvas, and are manipulated in such a manner as to maximize the benefit of the wind, to maneuver the sailing ship. I will think of such effort as an artistic talent of the sailer. The second interpretation is metaphorical, as the canvas represents the platform of the artist; be it painting a portrait, writing a poem, a song, or musical notations of melody. The canvas in both cases is the conduit unto emotional expression within the song. Cristopher Cross brilliantly captures both concepts within the same lyric.
