Dramatis Personae

Raised on movies and TV
Taught to type cast.
memorizing mannerisms,
tonality of speech, general bearing
of numberless character actors,
and stars in
the celluloid firmament
Knowing beforehand
who will be cast
as a kind or mean
mom or dad.
Who will play the role
of the corrupt or honest
cop or politician.
who is evil as Hitler,
good as Mr. Rogers
in his mythical neighborhood.
who done it, who didn't
~spoiler alert~
In the ubiquitous,
oh so enjoyable,
murder mystery,
the famous guest star,
no matter how unlikely,
is, VOILA, the culprit.

The propensity to pigeonhole
translates to real time
is a hurdle in real life
Who do we judge
will be a good husband,
will be a good wife?
Who's the upright citizen?
Who is the criminal?
Which generation
is more materialistic,
blase and self absorbed?
Baby boomer, generation X,Y, Z,
or millennial?

Are we classified so often
that we become that character?
Or can we not just borrow
our persona
and actually be the owner.
