I’ve Got to Go Pee!

Peeing in the woods
while on a road trip
never used to be a problem
but now with all the cameras
around, on people’s phones
or nailed to the trees
you never know who's going to see.

My husband laughs at me.

He tells me no one is watching
but can you really be sure?
I ask him to watch for a place
to pull over. A place
that I'll be satisfied with
and that I'm sure is invisible
from the traffic passing by.

He finally sees a spot
where there are many trees
and he pulls the car over
to the side of the road.
I jump out scanning the area
for the perfect place to pee.

An area secluded by trees
without used toilet paper
or tissues littering the scene,
somebody’s used condoms,
pads and plugs,
and piles of unburied poop.

But before squatting down
I inspect the trees once more
making sure there's no one
hiding behind a tree
holding a camera, ready to post it on
their favorite social media website
for all the world to see.
