Just because I had no Valentine,
for the first time
I didn't let it get me down

I brightened the apartment
with a few yellow roses,
and gave myself chocolate

I didn't pine for anyone else
or envy those with lovers

I took myself under the covers
and allowed myself
a freedom that many never get
and celebrated myself
