My Crumbling Edifice
I have load bearing walls, here, within
they've stood strong for many a year,
painted and plastered over, with a grin,
and washed down with just a few tears.
But, they're weather worn now, brittle,
my waterworks are beginning to leak,
my roof too, needs new tiles, or shingles,
and all my joists are beginning to creak.
Gravity causes the eves to droop
and cracks're showing where the fungus grows
the back wall bends, curves and now it stoops
where a musty smell gets up my nose...
The foundations are beginning to crack,
my damp course is showing the strain of time,
my windows too, dimming to opaque
yup, I'm showing all the ageing signs.
But, I do not fear that demolishing man
because of course he has a job to do,
and I think because science now can
recycle parts and make someone, new.
