The Masquerade

The supermarket masquerades
as parades of stores on high streets,
wherein shop keepers ply their trades
in supermarket masquerade,

Where newsagents and florist played
by assistants and so discrete,
one thinks ' shop-keepers ' portrayed
in supermarket masquerade.

And the butcher with their sharp blades
pretends they've prepared cuts of meat,
they are merely playing  charades
of destroyed shops on high-streets.

And I have seen how these degrade
and make desert of the high street,
consuming art nouveau arcades
and I have seen how these degrade

with the going down of their shades
concrete jungles rise where drunkards meet,
and I have seen how these degrade
and make desert of the high street.

The supermarket masquerade
of parade of stores on high streets,
an awful fraudulent charade
this supermarket masquerade,

of high street shopping parades,
play soothing music to make sweet
the supermarket masquerade
of destroy, destroy, don't compete...

Author's Note
I'm sick of the pretence as the huge supermarkets kill local businesses just as sure as if they shot them dead.

my local one has even put  " in your face cameras"  on the self checkout and that screams to me all shoppers are thieves untill this huge store says otherwise. I've started to push these offensive things away from me.

I'm just hoping some oaficial tries to stop me so I can make a scene.
